David Desharnais with over 100 points in his first pro season. Leading the league in scoring, I believe. Thomas Beauregard was also very productive as a rookie pro until suffering a late season injury. Mathieu Aubin and Olivier Latendresse have been dynamite together since the two second year pros were united a couple of months back. Both averaging around 1.5 points per game since that time. Ryan Russell playing solid two way hockey since coming down from the AHL. Good chance all of them will be key performers in Hamilton next season.

Cyclones Desharnais has won the ECHL’s MVP award the league office announced this afternoon . From what I seen , Desharnais is intriguing offensively. He is small by NHL standards, but that has never prevented players from skating in the big league. I see him making the Bulldogs roster next season and prove a valueable skater for them. All that being said , he may have more success overseas IMO. That is where I see his future. But he has exceeded expectations before. David uses his linemates well ,but he can also shoot the puck if needs be.With his stats (GP68 G29 A77 PTS106 and a +38 ) he has the talent. Seems to have the right attitude as well. Always looking at ways to improve his game. He also been named ECHL MVP as of today. Quote from article: “David Desharnais is very deserving of the MVP award,” Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. “He is the first guy on the ice and the last one off. David works hard on every element of his game and wants to get better every day.” Article about Deshatnais's MVP award www.cycloneshockey.com/news_data.php?article=00470

Cyclones missing starting goalie Desjardins who is still with the Dogs as they start their playoff run tonight and tomorrow at home.
They win their opener 5-2 and our kids come up big (again!).
Latendresse: 2 assists Desharnais: 1 goal 2 assists Aubin: 1 goal Beauregard: 2 goals 1 assist

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Habs sign Maxime Daigneault. I believe he is working on an AHL contract for Milwaukee. Daigneault was very highly rated as a junior, I think he was a high second round draft pick. He had a strong season in the AHL a year ago, and has been brilliant with the Cyclones this season. He looks like he would be an upgrade on Yann Danis, and is three years younger.

Someone new in Hamilton will be needed as Danis is all but certain to walk and try his luck elsewhere, and Desjardins looks like he is ready to move up a level but not yet as a consistent starter in the AHL. Someone to groom with would work well. Lacasse is the only other goalie prospect and he is playing in a nowhere league on the last place team. Although he was the league's goalie of the month for March, it is a six team league and a bit off the beaten track. He likely finishes off his final contract year in the ECHL next season. Can't wait to free up that contract spot for someone with more upside.

Desharnais may only be 5'6", but his trophy room will need to be expanded into massive proportions as he adds some more hardware. He was just named ECHL MVP. From 108 points in the Q to 106 in the ECHL and that was with a 6 game or so call up to the Dogs this seaon. He will be knawing at the ankles of the Dogs players come training camp time trying to win a full roster spot on the 08-09 Dogs. www.cycloneshockey.com/news_data.php?article=00470

Our young kids in Cincy are still on a roll. 2-0 in their series with a big 4-1 win tonight. Aubin had a big night, and the usual suspects were all there again. When Desjardins and Martin join them in two days from Hamilton once their season is done...look out!! www.cycloneshockey.com/news_data.php?article=00472

I think he was drafted the same year as Halak, but in an earlier round. He may be playing in the Elite league this year. But you're right, it is bare after that, with both Price and Halak on the big team. (that's a problem no other team would want to have )

I did a quick search and he has not committed to his SEL team next year, which makes you wonder if someone is making a pitch to him. Regardless, time to beef up that position this summer.

Christopher Heino-Lindberg has been getting more games the last couple of seasons with Färjestads BK in the Swedish Elite League. In 06/07 he had 18 games played with a 2.33GAA and a .916 save %. This season he played in 29 games having a 2.67GAA and .910 save %.
Circumstances have changed from last season as we never had no space for a goalie as it seemed we were stacked with Huet, Halak, Price, Danis , Desjardins and Lacasse. Now the logjam has cleared and noone is assured of a spot other than Price and Halak and perhaps Desjardins. If we sign him , he could very well start for us in ECHL or AHL.

I don't think that the Habs could sign an SEL starting goaltender if he was to play in the ECHL. I suspect that you would have to guarantee him at least a spot in the AHL.

No spot should be assured IMHO.But he should be given a crack at being top dog in Hamilton first before being sent to the ECHL, I must agree. Look at the Halak case for example. He was dominating the slovakia league and he wasn't guaranteed anything either. He could be used as an example for Christopher Heino-Lindberg Cheers

Halak never "dominated the Slovak league". I don't know if he ever played a game in the Slovak senior league. He came to N.A. at 18, out of the Slovak junior league. One season in the QMJHL. Half a season in the ECHL before getting injured. The following year he was in the AHL, with a late season callup to Montreal. He did make the Slovak national team for the W.C. last season, but was the backup.

But what I was trying to say is that Christopher Heino-Lindberg has proven less the Halak did when he turned pro and doesn't deserve to be given a spot on Hamilton but he needs to prove himself first, the way Halak did.

Cincy won 4-2 tonight behind a two point night from Aubin to go up 3-0 against Johnstown. Martin and Desjardins were back from Hamilton but Desjardins did not start as they kept running with Daigneault in net after his two big wins on the weekend.
Of special note, only because it is a rarity, David Desharnais was held pointless in the game.

He turns 23 in 3 weeks or so, he turned 20 2 months after leaving Lewiston for Hamilton (didn't dress for any games, April '05) He played in all 3 levels of the slovak league. Juniors, 1st league (something like ahl), and the Extraliga. He played 12 games at the Extraliga, 1.66 gaa and a .942 save % www.eurohockey.net/players/show_player.cgi?serial=59264

The Clones went into last night's third period down 3-0, but managed to score four times in the third to knot it up after 60 minutes. Thomas Beauregard was the hero with the OT winner. Desharnais also had a goal and Olivier Latendresse had a big night with two goals and an assist. Desjardins was yanked after the third goal, having made 19 saves on 22 shots.
They now lead their semi series 2-0 and play on the road on Wednesday.

Heard it on the Team990 this morning. Congrats to the boys. Here's hoping the experience helps at least one player have a chance to become the next Ryder.
