I don't know about you guys, but I am sick and tired of the whole self-imposed "Canada's Team" hogwash that comes from the Leafs' media and fans. So, I admit it...I fought back tonight and posted the following note on a Leaf web-site. Keep in mind that I live on "Hab Island" in the middle of "Leaf Ocean". "Leafs are Canada's Team? Don't think so!! How many Canadian-born Leafs are on Team Canada at the World's? ZERO! Of the teams eliminated from NHL playoffs, Team Canada is comprised of 6 Oilers, 3 Coyotes, 3 Red Wings, 2 Panthers, 2 Sabres, 1 Canadien, 1 Blackhawk, 1 Avalanche, 1 Shark, and 1 Thrasher. What about all those stud Canadian Leafs that make them Canada's team? Where are Domi, Belak, Belfour, Corson, Green, Tucker, Healey, Jackman, McCabe, Roberts, and Wesley? Not good enough to even be invited. The only Leaf players good enough to play for their countries are all Europeans. Tell Don Cherry to stick that in his "Bubba"!

I agree with you but that world championship thing was a lame argument.
You should have used the fact that HABS fans fill up Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa arenas alot better than Laffs fans do. ;D
btw what was the board you posted this on?

Yes, you're right, because we all know that, in their lame attempt to "win" something, "Canada's Team" really means "Canada's Favourite NHL Team"....but as Forrest Gump would say, "Lame is as lame does, Leaf fans." Do you have stats on the Habs outdrawing the Leafs on the road? I've seen many Leaf road games out west and in Ottawa, and there have been huge contingents of Leaf fans...even in Montreal where the cheers for Leaf goals seem just as loud as goals for the Habs. I bet it's close. The website I posted it on was faceoff.com It's too easy to do some bashing there. (the leafs section)

Are we just pretending Carter doesn't play for the Rangers, or for Team Canada?

I bet it's close. In Vancouver, when Habs are in town and I bet some of the BC guys can confirm this, almost half of the arena is filled with Habs fans. Same can be said for Edmonton and Calgary and Ottawa. You can't look at the Habs vs Leafs stats on attendance in Canadian cities because its sold out either way. RR, ?

CH listed the teams of players representing Canada at the World's, but had no Rangers even though Carter is playing. Either he counted him as an Oiler or forgot him.

I know for 5 years straight I tried to get tickets to see the Canadiens and the Oilers and was unable to get them, I have given up now. I never tried to go to a Leafs game so I don't know how difficult it is. I also see way more Canadien Jerseys here in Red Deer than Leaf Jerseys

I think the "Centre of the Canadian Universe" mode certainly comes from the Toronto media. However, I was watching BBC around this time last year. When reporting on playoff hockey, they actually referred to the Leafs as "Canada's Team exiting the playoffs" as well.
Where did they get that? Probably from the local Toronto media, but that's a guess that's all.
Cheers.
