I wasn't sure about posting this as I couldn't find any confirmation on the web so take it for what it's worth.

"A source close to HockeyFirst.com has confirmed that unrestricted free agent Ray Whitney has agreed to terms with the Detroit Red Wings.

The deal is said to be worth 3.5 million dollars a season."

also, the following comment was posted regarding that story:

"they reported it on the dsr tonight, but they didnt say it was confirmed, so yeah..."

I thought they would eventually sign Nieuwendyk, not Whitney.

yeah, I know. that's why I decided to post it anyway. I also found this on Letsgowings.com:

"According to WDFN 1130AM in Detroit, the Red Wings are reportedly close to signing unrestricted free agent forward Ray Whitney. Reports late Monday night stated that the deal would be worth around $3.5 million per season.

"Barring something drastic, Whitney will be a Red Wing by the end of the week," WDFN radio personality Mike Stone said Monday afternoon."
