Wow, Marc, you didn't call this one "official" - are you feeling ok ? ;-)
And you forgot Kilger, he was a UFA for a few hours :-D

Yeah, I am OK There are alot of guys on that list who are interesting for AHL depth...Jesse Wallin is one, ditto for Lee Goren, Mike Mottau, Cameron Mann, Daniel Corso, Matt Zultek, etc all guys who at once were fairly decent prospects and are still rather young.. as for NHLers, the only guys who interest me and who fit in our budget are guys like Rheaume, Rasmussen, Nieminen and Webb(decent 14th forward)...basically 4th liners

I don't know why but i still think that daigle can turn it around. Maybe he'd be pretty good in a habs jersey. I don't think he'd be too expensive either, and i'm pretty sure he can put up the numbers that audette put up!!

I personally would stay as far as possible from Daigle because I don't think that's the kinda guy you want your prospect to develop around. He's a sorry excuse for a human being and a fraud. Guess why he came back. All he wants is squeeze some juice out of the poor GM who's going to award him a contract. He had A LOT of chances and he screwed them all. I vote no ...

As for Daigle....
he played alright when paired up with Lemieux (as did Rob Brown and John Cullen)...but after that he was sent down. I'd have to see him publicly making a severe campaign to return. But for a couple bucks it still might be worth the gamble.
What about Ivan Ciernik - he showed some good stuff last season didn't he?

Correction.
Ciernik did not have as good a season as I thought.

Pascal Rheaume, Erik Rasmussen and Blake Sloan are about the only guys that really interest me... Rheaume would be great, he could replace Juneau or else just play 4th line. Either way, he brings good depth, and comes cheap. Rasmussen is another Kilger, but even as an under achiever, he brings size and strength. I really like Sloan, and the way he plays the game, he's a good pest, but probably too small for our line up.

I want Nieuwendyk and want Juneau dealt. Signing JN does not mean we are shying away from the youth movement, i.e. Ribeiro in the 2nd center spot. JN would be there for insurance purposes in case Ribs falls flat on his face.
Of course, signing JN will enable us to deal Perreault and make for a more balanced lineup than what YP would bring as #3 center.
Also, he will not command the big bucks everyone is expecting. $ 2.5 million per year for 2 years will do it.
bottom 2 lines:
Hossa - Nieuwendyk - Ward Sunny - Kilger - Ryder Dwyer / Dackell

I think we need one more d-man for Hamilton, right now it looks like Hamilton will have Bouillon, Beauchemin, Archer, Jarventie (maybe), and Shasby (maybe), (considering Hainsey will make the big club). So that's 5 guys, and not even for sure, so we could use another free agent a-la Damphousse and Dagenais. Personally my choice would be Shawn Heins, he's really physical, and has a wicked shot. He's not huge, but he uses what he has, I liked his play last year in Pittsburgh a lot when I seen it, he might be willing to star in Hamilton if he's offered a contract no where else. Another guy is Jesse Wallin, who still might have some potential.

apparently the Stars have signed Don Sweeney. One guy less on the market. I think he makes for half of a Hatcher. He's still pretty compitent. Hard to believe the old guy from (St Stephen?) New Brunswick lasted this long. Just goes to show you, size really doesn't matter if you play your position well. Sweeney made a career out of being pretty good at everything. It'll be weird not to see him in a Bruins jersey, being that he spent his whole career to this point in one.

I really like Sloan, and the way he plays the game, he's a good pest, but probably too small for our line up. Rheaume would be a great pickup if we didn't have Juneau. Pascal was super for NJ throughout the playoffs. I'm surprised that NJ hasn't actively pursued resigning him. They may yet. Still I think injecting the youth is a good move. We find out where we stand with a lot of our prospects leading into the labour situation. Then, if things resolve quickly (not likely) we can fill holes with players that could/would be potentially cheaper. PR-wise, it's the right move at this point. If the team fails miserabley, blame it on a youth movement and draft well. If the team is close the options are unlimited. We may stink it up this year, but the team has better direction and focus than it has had in some time.

With the possible departure of Brisebois, and the desire to see Traverse and Dykhuis gone, we should consider signing FA Sean Brown. At 6'3" and 205 (outdated weight?), he has good size and is very physical and comes cheap. This past year with Boston was wasted as they had him as a forward on a line with Stock and Oliwa.
While in Edmonton he had some pretty good years. He is big, physical and very possessive of the area in front of the net. Sean is physical enough that he had a tendency to take roughing penalties. He doesnt however take dumb penalties and has learned to play his style while cutting down on penalties taken. His plus/minus in Edmonton was between +1 and +8 once established with Edmonton.
In junior he had decent offensive numbers due to his good wristshot, but is now a stay at home defenseman and has few points as an NHLer.
He is quite similar actually to Souray, and would make it a lot more difficult for the opposition to move around in our end.

Sabres sign Joel Bouchard: www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/ny-isles113368303jul11,0,7820706.story?coll=ny-hockey-headlines The Rangers lost out on free- agent defenseman Joel Bouchard, who will continue his impressive comeback with the Sabres. Bouchard recovered from meningitis three years ago and a tumor on his salivary gland last summer to return to the NHL with the Rangers last season before being dealt to the Penguins in the Alexei Kovalev deal.

It doesn't matter.
You are not eligible for the waiver draft or waivers unless you have completed 3 years of pro hockey. Pro hockey is either at the NHL, AHL, or ECHL level.

Ah good old Joel Bouchard...used to live down the street from me when he played for the Saint John Flames...Bouchard was always a 'tweener...6'0 190lbs is small for a defenseman although he could skate like the wind.
Good to see the guy get a chance
