Chicago has signed Finnish forward Tuomo Ruutu, the Blackhawks' first-round selection - taken ninth overall - in the 2001 NHL entry draft.
"It took a while to come to an agreement with Tuomo, Chicago GM Mike Smith said in a statement. "Working together both sides found a way we both could live with. We're optimistic he is going to have a long and successful career as a Blackhawk."
Tuomo Ruutu was the captain of Finland's world junior team last year and led his country with two goals and eight assists in seven games.
The six-foot-two 202 pounder has played in three world junior championships, helping the Finns to a silver and bronze medal.
Ruutu says he is ready to bang with the big boys.
"I really love the physical part of the game and that's why I really am looking forward to play in North America," he said. www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=52030&hubName=nhl

Makes a good replacement for Steve Thomas, I guess.

Seems to be a three year deal, with bonuses that could make it worth $10 million over the course of the contract. Or about $3.3 million per season. Far cry from the $7 million he wanted. Good for Mike Smith.
Now, if these bonuses are fair and reasonable, then Mike Smith should win a medal.
