Yep, Patrick Roy's number will be retired by the Avalanch. www.nhl.com/onthefly/news/2003/09/147286.htmlI know he walked out on the club, but he did steal two Cups for us. There's also a lot of Roy's money still in Montreal; children's hospital wing and other charities as well. Should les habitants retire #33? In my opinion, yes. And that's base on what I cited above. That's just me though. Cheers.

Yes, but other numbers have to be retired first.

I'm thinking both 'yes' and 'no'. Yes, because he carried teams which weren't very good to three Stanley Cup finals, and No, because of the way he handled that game in Detroit.
Some fans aren't very forgiving on that regard, but then again, where he was traded and who we received in return I suppose was much worse.
And like Marc said, other jerseys should be retired first before Roy is even considered.

It is still surprising to me that even Habs fans will still hand ALL the credit to Roy for the sucess of the '89 & '93 teams. The 1989 team finsihed second overall with 115 points and lost the finals to Calgary who finished the season with 117 points. The 1993 team was a well balanced group that had six or seven players over 30 goals and proven defensive forwards like Carbonneau & Keane. Roy was a huge part of the victory to be sure. But this team finished the year with 102 points ( in an eighty game seson without the benefit of points for OT losses. Calling these teams "not very good" is way off base.

I hear ya' jkr. These teams were very well balanced and had excellent chemistry.
However, I remember Roy's play in '93. Had it not been for him I honestly believe that there would've been a different result. He really was that good.
I can't say much for '89 as I was living overseas at the time. I listened to the last game on the radio at a very early hour of the morning.
Anyway, I too agree with Marc insomuch as there should be other numbers retired first.
Cheers.
