With the possible exception of 'LL cool cups' in Joisey every GM has their name attached to a booboo somewhere. Although AS had emerged like a champ in the Linden deal, the Hackett unload, the Chewey chomp etc., his name shall remain tarnished a bit in the Asham deal. You know that one, we exchanged a hunk western Canadian prime beef for a foul-smelling piece of beef 'cherky'. I liked Asham, I miss Asham, the Isles won their opening ex. last night..Asham scored, get used to it . Oh yeah, we may get one last laff yet, ol MM took that rancid cherky back home, duh.

It sucks that the deal blew up in our faces like it did but we do have 2 guys who can hopefully fill the role Asham can fill in Ward and Ryder.

Right you are Marc, we do seem to be getting pretty strong on rw, and these two guys will be permanent fixtures over the coming seasons. Kinda softens the Asham loss for me. No point in crying over spilt milk, move on, move up, ya that's the spirit.

Who could have said Czerkawski would not do well in Montreal at that time? As far as I'm concerned, I was pretty excited about that deal and I thought we had screwed Milbury. Am I the only one?
Meanwhile, Asham has been used by the Islanders on the top 2 lines for a big part of the season (not kidding), while his true role is to play on the checking line, IMO.
I wish people would stop blaming Savard for that deal, because it's not his fault if it didn't work out with the Habs for Chow. Who could have told how Czerkawski would perform anyways?

Pretty much everyone thought we had fleeced Milbury, when the deal was first announced. There was practically no way Savard could have anticipated that Therrien would mismanage Chow by, among other things, playing him on his off wing, and that Chow would have one of his worst seasons ever. If that same trade had just been made 2 months ago, and Chow were to start this season in Montreal, under Julien, the results may have been quite different. He still would have sucked, in terms of being the type of guy you want on your team, but he may have done so while contributing 20+ goals.

Well, quite a few of us disliked the deal from the start, given that it gave us far too many similar style players. Right from camp it was clear something was not going to work out, Chow, Audette and Petrov are in many ways 3 copies of the same player. It was a bad deal for this team, since we needed a player like Asham much more than we needed a guy like Chow. Hence, it was a bad deal.
