What does Jacques Lemaire expect of him exactly? I was sure last year would finally make Daigle come back as a real NHLer, but he got sent to the minors by the Pens.. But now, he's playing with Pierre-Marc Bouchard.. 2ND PRD: MIN - PIERRE-MARC BOUCHARD 1 (ALEXANDRE DAIGLE) 1:16 They even score If Jacques is willing to take the risk, maybe there's something finally there. I always tought the Habs should have givin him a chance since he's always been the kind of player who likes to be a "star", and media pressure would make him play like he should... A story to follow, if he makes the Wild lineup!

If you look closely you'll see that the Wild are a relatively new team but not an especially young team. Many of the players you remember from last season's playoffs are grizzled veterans. When the Wild were assembled Doug Risebrough deliberately selected experienced players (unlike Columbus). This strategy can't go on forever because it'll be necessary to rebuild the team before long. There aren't many players in the Marian Gaborik mold, and players selected in the 2003 entry draft won't be ready for awhile.
Ask Savard about the success of his salvage strategy and you'll get the picture.

I remember BC saying that Diagle had the talent and I'll wager he still does have that talent. He might not put up the numbers one expects from a former number-1 draft pick, but whose to say he can't be turned into a bonafide checker?
Guy Carbonneau wasn't all that big a player. And, like Daigle, Carbo was a junior scoring sensation. If Daigle still has the wheels why not try him on in a checking role?
Would I take him in Montreal? No, basically because most hockey fans still remember what Diagle was touted to be; a gifted goal scorer. And that won't go away especially in Montreal. If he were here he'd have more problems than he ever had just trying to live up to his past hype and T'Bob would have his work cut out for him just trying to justify bringing him in (though he seems to be up for a fight n'est pas). Besides, there are too many prospects who have done their time in the trenches and bringing in Daigle would be a slap in the face to most of them.
Still, if he can be molded into a checker, he might benefit the Wild. More to that, if he adjusts and adopts the Lemaire style of playing hockey, he might just make it and stick.
Other than that, I just feel the time for him to be a gifted, play-making, goal-scoring sensation is past. Perhaps Lemaire's system would be just the thing for him to earn a paycheque. Good luck Alexandre.
Cheers.

Who is BC? Bobbi Clarke? If so, he's the GM who is fascinated by the idea of reviving abandoned players. To get him from Ottawa he gave up Vaclav Prospal, Pat Falloon, and a 2nd round draft choice pick. (Some deal, huh?) He gave the Habs a 2nd rounder for Chouinard, who probably wouldn't have been offered a contract by Savard. He traded Brind'Amour to get the less valuable Keith Primeau. He signed Jeff Hackett, a chronic loser in the playoffs, as his goaltender. I'd say Clarke lost his touch years ago and can no longer evaluate veteran players. (He can't rest on his laurels for the Leclair trade forever.)
As for Daigle, I don't think Lemaire views him as a checking forward. The Wild need scoring, and that's the only thing Daigle can do (if he still has it in him). It's an inexpensive gamble, and I'm not even sure Daigle has a guaranteed contract.

Not Bob Clarke, but our own BadCompany.Honestly, I don't know if Lemaire is gambling on Daigle's scoring ability. I hope not. But, I venture to say that Lemaire gave Daigle a chance if based only on his talent level, or he could have just been a walk-on; I really don't know. That aside, I don't know how Daigle will make out. Some might suggest that he'll need a strong centre and winger to make a difference. Well, so does every other player in the league. I honestly think Daigle's scoring days may be behind him. However, he may be the type of player to fit into Lemaire's team-defense-first system. Having said that, anyone who can pot goals in that type of system has to be a good, opportunistic type of player. Again, good luck to Alexandre. Cheers.

From rotoworld Alexandre Daigle - W - Minnesota Wild Sep 29 Alexander Daigle has looked very good in the four pre-season games he has played in, and will likely earn a roster spot with the Wild, reports the Star Tribune. He has played well on a line with Sergei Zholtok and Pierre Marc-Bouchard, registering three assists in four contests.
