After I'm finished hating the leafs and the Nordiques are no longer around; I remember Tony Leswick stealing the Cup away from my beloved Hab's and Gordie Howe beating out the Rockey in NHL scoring and first team all-star voting. The Wings are my next most hated team.
If they don't win this year, and Colorado is looking good up front;
Hasek (one more year) Hatcher (one more time?) Yzerman (one leg) Chelios (one pension) Lidstrom (one step slower) Shanahan (one more big hit) Hull (one more record before retirement) Schneider (one last time) McCarty, Draper, Maltby....
This team should be working out in an assisted living center! They have some promising younger players, but their depth in mediocrity youth isn't close to ours. In three years they could be in deep trouble. In three years WE have to be a lot better.

IMO this is a wish fulfillment dream that will evaporate upon awakening.

don't be fooled, Detroit isn't in such a bad situation as it may seem. they already have some young talent in prominent roles (Fischer, Zetterberg, Datsyuk) and some are on the verge of making the team (Bykov, Hudler). there is also a more than solid group of players between 25 and 32 who can play effectively and ease the transition (Legace, Holmstrom, Maltby, Draper, McCarty, Dandenault, Devereaux, Hatcher and even Lidstrom and Schneider). add to that top prospects like Grigorenko and Kronwall and lots of money to spend on UFAs and you've got a team that will not be that far from contenders in a few years
