I know it's a little early in discussing free agent signings, but it's quite possible that this is Quintal's final year in the NHL. While we have some promising young players playing in the AHL right now, should we consider going after Chris Therien, who is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year?
Or should we use the money to sign those whose contracts are up at the end of the year, including Kovalev?

I voted no. He's just been traded to the Stars. I guess that sums it up for this thread.
Stars get Therrien Philadelphia gets 3rd in 2005 and a 8th in 2004.
I don't know how badly Philly insisted to get that 8th pick...

Definitely a no. Therien has size, but really nothing else...he's slow and not consistently physical.
If he's not dealt, next year will be THE year for Ron Hainsey. He will have to clear waivers, so i expect/hope he will be with the big club. Komisarek replaces Quintal in the top 6, and Hainsey and Cube battle it out for the 3rd LD spot.
Of course that's baring a trade today or tomorrow...

I'm pretty sure he was...his brief stint in the AHL last season (3 games) was a conditioning stint after his injury at the end of camp. But my memory is getting worse by the day, and the info on Hainsey is coming from another board, so i could be way off here... Can anyone clear this up? Will Hainsey and Hossa be waiver eligible next season?
