As far as I'm concerned anyway....we lost our "game" in the second period against Russia and, other than Brodeur, never got it back.
Plus having to put up with the clutch and grab of the Czechs....my lord, Tomas Kaberle was in his glory (Leafs).
Glenn Healey, in all his wisdom, before the game said, "If Czech fans are pinning their hopes on Vinnie Prospal and Jaromir Jagr....forget it....Canada will win."
Who scores the first (and winning) goal? Prospal from Jagr. Jagr with an assist on the insurance goal by Ruczinski as well.
We definitely played right into the Czechs' game plan....but, like I said, I think our guys ran out of steam after they went up 4-0 vs. Russia. If not for Brodeur's outstanding play, Russia would've come all the way back IMO.
And what was with Ryan Smyth's hack job on Fisher's feet near the end? Very atypical of Smyth, I'd say....unless Fisher and his compatriots had been doing it to him all game.
I always liked Vokoun too.....did he leave the Habs in the Petrov trade to Nashville? If so, who did we get for him?

I am pretty sure we lost Vokoun in the expansion draft. He played really well in the tournament for sure.

Vokoun was claimed by Nashville when they arrived in the NHL (1998). Petrov was traded two seasons ago (for a fifth if I'm not mistaken). The Habs drafted him the same year as Théodore, in 1994.

Very disappointing to come so close and not win. We won two in a row and came second, ahead of USA, Sweeden, Russia and Finland. We lost to Czecheslovakia. We beat France.
Our boys played hard and represented Canada well. While it's disappointing that we can't win them all, reality is they did a good job and accounted themselves well.

Team Canada was fortunate to win silver. I'm glad that they did.

With all thats gone on this season and the fact that 12 of the players hadn't even played this year, and with the team being mediocre at best, from what we could have put out there, silver is probably more than they deserved really. As patriotic as I am the whole pall of the year has me not feeling particularly upset. In most years no one has really ever cared anyways. Give me the Stanley Cup playoffs back! HFTO

I wouldn't say he was even the best forward on his team. Redden did not deserve his award, too. Markov, for example, had a great tournament and was better than him, IMO. funny thing with those awards is that Redden, as the best dman, and kovalev, as the best forward, did not make the all-star team all-star team:G - Vokoun D - Zidlicky D - Kronwall F - Nash F - Thornton F - Jagr R.
