Just 3 games for that nasty elbow on Lombardi. I just don't understand this league. Hatcher went out of his way to elbow him which resulted in a concussion and Lombardi is missing playoff games as a result. Additionally, Hatcher is a repeat offender. This suspension is way too light. Protecting players is just not a priority.

I don't understand how driving a hard plastic coated elbow into someone's head is seen as less detremental than hitting them with your stick - it's no less blatant, or harmful. How many careers have ended, or been threatened due to concussions in the past 10 years . Headshots have to be taken out of the game. The only way of doing so is to have drastic and automatic suspensions. An established dirty player blatantly injures a promising young NHLer - no problem, we'll give him a slap on the wrist. We don't need up and coming young stars in this league. I'd light up Bettman or Cambell with an elbow to the head for being so stupid.

3 games for what Hatcher did is a joke!
I fail to understand the logic behind NHL punishments. Leaving the bench to join in a fight is an automatic 10 game suspension, but delivering a career-threatening shot to the head is a mere 3 games.
It's a shame really, because I thought that after the Bertuzzi affair that the NHL was headed on the right track. I fully agreed with the Bertuzzi punishment and it gave reason for optimism regarding future NHL suspensions.
Unfortunately, I was wrong. After the Bertuzzi incident, Belak swings his stick at Vaananen's head and gets a measly 8 games. And now we find out that Hatcher gets slapped with a 3-gamer at the start of next season. It's a freakin' joke and it's no wonder that in the eyes of many, so is the NHL.

I get pretty tired talking about fighting being bad for the game when head shots and hitting from behind is lightly punished or not even called. These are two of thw worst things one player can do to another and they are treated with little concern.
If the NHL gave it any thought, maybe it would realize that major incidents may not happen if the "smaller" incidents are treated more severely.

Obviously we need to defer punishment to the AHL league office. But even then, they'd get it wrong, since it wasn't a 'retaliation'.

Lynch and deport Perezhogin now! * Obviously Hatcher did not intend to inflict injury, and he wasn't retaliating.
