Scott Niedermayer, the 2004 Norris Trophy winner, won a $7M arbitration decision.
Earlier, the Devils had signed Brian Rafalski for one year.

His agent is reported to have said that considering the lack of an offer that he and his client felt met the market, that Scott would likely not be back with NJ after the current contract expires. Scott and his agent feel he's apparantly worth somewhere between $9-10 million per. Good luck getting that offer Scott. You should have taken the $40 million deal the Devils offered. I have a hard time not calling him a dumba$$ at this point.

I know owners have their faults too (giving out big contracts and stuff) but for the most part athletes let ego and agents run their thought process. 40 million over 5 years gets turned down because he wanted 45 million. Someone tell me what he can buy with 45 million that he can't with 40 million, because the logic dumfounds me. I am guessing Scottie thinks himself the cat's @ss, and there is nobody like him now ...... to that extent he now wants to be the highest paid. There is a time and place Scottie ..... Time and place. You have missed both!
