The entries are in alphabetical order so as to not influence the voting.
Why Czechia? I support those Czechs that agree with the Czech Foreign Ministry's suggestion that their nation be informally referred to as Czechia - it makes more sense (else why not call Germany the Federal Republic of Germany all the time, for example?)

I'll take Canada. I think they'll play the US in the finals.

Those aren't the only countries either. United States is actually The United States of America Canada is actually The Dominion of Canada So I agree with shortening Czech Republic .... but Czechia? That sounds like a skin disease. Czechiland!

Czechia sound too much like Chechneya, and I'm sure the Czechs would not appreciate the association.

I used to think that Czechia was an artificial construct, too - until I did a little research: www.p.lodz.pl/I35/personal/jw37/EUROPE/cesko2.htmwww.ling.ohio-state.edu/~hana/Czechia-name.htmlThe fact is, as Skilly pointed out: United States of America (official) // United States or U.S. or U.S.A. (unofficial) Dominion of Canada (official) // Canada (unofficial) United Kindom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (official) // U.K. or Great Britain or Britain or United Kingdom (unofficial) Russian Federation (official) // Russia (unofficial) Czech Republic (official) // Czechia (unofficial)

Czechia (even with Montrealer's explanation sounds still strange). They are usually very motivated (even more if they can play against Russia) when playing for the national team, and now they have to win it for Ivan Hlinka (very sad news by the way).

I will go with Cesko. Czechia sounds and appears too much like they copied the Slovaks (Slovakia). Cesko sounds original, we shouldn't even bother trying to "englishize" it.
By the way ..... How do we get Finland out of Suomi?

By the way ..... How do we get Finland out of Suomi? Ok, I did a little research. When the first Proto-Finns settled in the area around the Gulf of Finland, they seperated into various groups. One of the groups, the Sami, would eventually migrate north to the area today known as "Lapland" - yet the people who would constitute the state known as Finland ended up taking the name of this tribe upon themselves (Suomi). The Sami still exist today and prefer to be called Sami, not Laplanders. The Norwegians of the first millienium called the Suomi, Sami, and all others speaking their strange Finno-Ugric language "Finns" - and it meant "Laplander". Today Suomi is still known as Finland to the rest of the Scandinavians, and the rest of the World.

Oficial name: Suomen tasavalta, Finlands republik (Republic of Finland)
Seems to me their isn't one country that goes by uts official name. Montrealer is on to something here.
