Another doubtful player for that match is Montreal Canadiens right-winger Richard Zednik, who is still recovering from hernia surgery in July, although he was able to skate. Zednik could not say when he will be ready to play. “I feel pretty good, but I don't want to rush things,” said Zednik, who was injured during a summer workout. “I've got to feel 100 per cent to play, that's for sure. “I don't want to injure it again or for anything to happen. I want to be sure I'm alright for the (NHL) season.”<br> - www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20040827.wslovakia0827/BNStory/Sports/ [registration required] * Russian D Andrei Markov went down hard after being elbowed by Guerin in the second period and had to be helped off the ice . - www.tsn.ca/world_cup_hockey/news_story.asp?ID=96584&hubName=world_cup_hockey

In the Montreal-Boston first round playoffs of 01-02, Guerin low-bridged a Habs d-man near centre ice. I believe it was Markov, no?
Guerin is skilled enough not to have to play the cheap shot game. Was this recent shot an elbow to Markov's head? To me, an elbow to the head is just as bad or worse than a high stick. Elbow pads are like cement...the p.s.i. delivered is phenomenal. The players who use them as weapons should pay a hefty price. Usually, it's a hit along the boards, so the head rings off the glass as well.
More often than not it's a 2-minute penalty...a joke. It should be an automatic 5 and a game followed by a 10-game suspension. How else are they going to clean up this game?
You do NOT have to bring your elbow up to take a man out of the play or finish a check. It's a deliberate attempt to injure with a piece of equipment.

Markov's not dressed tonight vs the US. And the announcers said he was none too happy about it, suggesting it wasn't due to injury. Khavanov is playing, and whil there's nothing wrong with Khavanov, you'd have to throw in a high draft choice before you'd trade him for Markov. Anyone know if there's some tension between the coach (whoever it is) and Andrei? Did his coach think Markov's injury the previous game was iffy?
