Scott Niedermayer is reported by RDS and tsn to have turned down a Devils offer of about $7M. Could he be headed to the Canucks, who play near his home in BC?

Does Niedermayer hope to get much more than 7m$ ? With Lamoriello ? It seems indeed that he could look for a new challenge. However, he's not unrestricted - but, him being 30 and next season perhaps cancelled, that shoudn't be a problem.
Let's say that he goes to Vancouver : their defense would look good with Ohlund, Jovansovski, Niedermayer as a "top three". Add Sopel and Allen to them, and they would have a really strong core.
That would make the northwest division even more competitive, assuming that the Flames weren't a one year wonder and that Colorado can overcome their issues.

Sure, if you count 500 miles and a 2 hour flight as 'near his home'. Cranbrook's in the far eastern part of BC, and is closer to Calgary than Vancouver. Niedermayer to the Flames?

That may well be, but it's a lot closer to his home than the Newark-Liberty Airport in New Jersey. As for the Flames, where would they get the money to sign him? The $7M or so he is reported to have turned down is quite a mouthful.

Montréal is one of the more unlikely destinations for Scott Niedermayer. Paying him $7M+ would be an uncharacteristic act of wild abandon on the part of the budget-conscious Gainey. I suppose anything is possible in a dream.

The $7M or so he is reported to have turned down is quite a mouthful. Where is Vancouver going to get the money? With Bert and Naslund, the Canucks have two elite level contracts. I doubt they could afford a third. How about a sign and trade with Anaheim? The two Niedermeyers get to play together, and Anaheim unload Fedorov's contract. After Gomez, the Devils aren't exactly deep at centre offensively. Sergei has proven to be a good two way player. Seriously though, if Scott is holding out for more than $7m per he needs a new agent. He should be responding with, "Where do I sign?" With the impending labour uncertainty he's more likely to get smaller offers as time goes on.
