Click here for articleAttendance has been down in St Paul for the last few games. Coach Ron Wilson had some comments on the issue. I agree with the first one. The 6pm start time is early. I don't know if that is CBC or ESPN2 pulling that string, but it is early to expect people to be there for it. That said, fans that really wanted to be there could have made an evening out of it. Leave work, go straight to dinner, then the game. I do that here for junior games. The second comment from Wilson really hit a nerve with me. He said, "Outside of Canada, people have a lot of other things to do besides hockey," said Wilson. "In Minnesota, on Labour Day weekend, nobody is here." What is he saying? People in Canada have nothing better to do? Ron needs to stick to coaching. It's apparent that is all he has the slightest notion in.

The same guy who uttered the following: "What bugs you is that people who aren't in the know do this stuff to act like they're in the know," Sharks coach Ron Wilson said. "But people who are in the know, know that those guys aren't in the know. Know what I mean?" - www.canoe.ca/Slam030303/col_hornby-sun.htmlAh so, Ron Wilson, master of the no-know.

Sounds like he has been taking lessons from the master, our former Prime Minister Chretien: A proof is a proof . . .

I don't know, but hockey is NOT the National sport down here. It isn't the second or third or fourth. Should it be? It's a great game that goes unnoticed by the great unwashed who prefer Tractor Pulls and Xtreme Wormeating. Most of the people here have seen it on TV but don't know the players and they think Crosby is a guy who sings White Christmas. Anyone who has seen a game in person loves it. They fully understand the t-shirts fired out of bazookas and pucks shot into slots by fat young men wearing street shoes between periods. If you haven't played the game it's hard to appreciate the skill of the players, speed of the reactions and force of the checks. Ron Wilson was a good coach for the Almighty Bucks. Disney dropped after he left. Washington dropped after he left too. He made the most of a bunch of stiffs. His tact with the press is a notch above Jimmy the Big Fat Greek or Andy Rooney. Canadians have other things to do, but ice fishing and eating yellow snow (maple syrup) rank far behind hockey. Americans watch kids with their underware hanging out ride skateboards on park benches. A chaqu-un..........

Aye, but the games are in Minnesota for a reason. It is a hockey hotbed. It's as popular there as anywhere really. It's not like they're having games in Houston.

I was in Montreal last week, at the Expos vs. Cubs game there were lots of Americans. Half rooted against the Cubs, having come up from Boston, or Vermont (of all places). The ones we talked to had tickets to the hockey games.
Perhaps the Minnesota hockey fans were all in Toronto so they could see the finals.

I read that as a sarcastic knock against Americans, rather than a legitimate knock against Canadians. Ron Wilson lives and breathes hockey. It's the greatest game on earth, and he knows it. He sees the fan support that we have in Canada, and he's envious. He sees the fan support in the US, and he's justifiably p1ssed off. This is the World fcukin Cup, and the US are defending champs. Where are the fans? [sarcasm] They obviously have better things to do than watch hockey. [/sarcasm]
