Anyone caught the game on friday night ? It was on TQS (local Montreal station), Laval vs Verdun. Interesting game that Vedun finally captured 8-5. I started following that league last year (attended some live games) and was surprised by the quality of the product. It's no beer league, players are in top condition and it's very offensive minded. There are a tad too much fights for my licking (3-4 per game) but the level of respect between players is very high as you almost never see players trying to hurt each other. This league has progress really well in the last few years.
Fro those interested, you can catch them on friday nights on TQS.

I don't get TQS, but I'm curious, what's the age level of the players?

The age vary a lot but this league is mostly made of players that a) are pros but not quite NHL level and b) are too old to play in the development leagues (AHL). I would think the average should be in the high twenties.
As an example, Donald Brashear decided to play in this league this year and although he looks good, he's not tearing the league apart.
You can find a lot of ex-HABS prospects like Sylvain Blouyn, Jonathan Delisle, Pierre Sevigny, JF Damphousse, etc...
Since I like offensive (no trap) hockey, this league really hit the spot for me.

Where real men come to playQuebec circuit packs 'em in with plenty of punches :`It's the toughest league out there,' one enforcer saysBILL BEACON CANADIAN PRESS MONTREAL—Don Cherry would love the North American Hockey League. Here, tough guys are kings, fights are encouraged, play goes end to end unimpeded by neutral-zone traps and some of the tattooed, beer-swilling fans look as nasty as the battle-scarred players on the ice. "It's the toughest league out there," said Calgary native Mike Varhaug, a hulking bruiser with the defending league champion Verdun Dragons, whose left eye was swollen purple from his most recent scrap. "You can't find another league with six or eight heavyweights on each team." - Starticle

Blouin hurt in stick swinging incidentCanadian Press 10/14/2004 MONTREAL (CP) - A minor pro hockey league that promotes fighting found itself under police scrutiny Thursday after a stick-swinging incident left former NHL tough guy Sylvain Blouin with a concussion. Michel Gaudette, president of the Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey (no relation to the U.S. junior North American Hockey League), said he expected Mathieu Melancon of the Thetford Mines Prolab team to be suspended for the rest of the season. "There's a big difference between fighting and violence,'' Gaudette said. "If a player wants to fight, it's one thing, but we can't tolerate using the stick as a weapon.'' With 30 seconds left in Thetford's 3-1 win over Quebec City Radio X on Tuesday night, Melancon spun around and hit Blouin on the side of the head with his stick, sparking a brawl. Blouin has a concussion and will miss at least two games, a team spokesman said. - www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=101670

It's VERY unfortunate that this kind of incident happens when the league is gaining in credibility and getting some real media attention... The ProLab and Melancon himself presented public excuses to Blouin, the Quebec team and the league in General. They did not try to minimize the incident and will not appeal against any kind of suspension.
There was an historic game last night when Saint-Georges hosted a game agaisnt Trois-Rivieres. For the very first time since the league has been created no fight broke out into the game.
On the good news side, talks between TQS and the LNAH are happening in regards to extending friday night's game telecast all the way to Christmas.

Insane Game!!!
I know this isn't the right board but, there's no where else to put it. Anyways, last night's North American Hockey League (Quebec semi-pro) game between the Verdun Dragons and the Laval Chiefs at the Bell Centrewas one for the ages. There were five fights in the first seven seconds (an obvious marketing ploy), around four more fights throughout the game, a goalie, on player fight, a Dragons player scaling the glass behind the bench to take on a fan, a trainer subsequently using a stick to hit a fan behind the bench and a brawl in the stands between a couple of guys slugging each other over rows of seats. Truely Old Time hockey Slap Shot style. But there was also a surplus of offence, with the final score being 9-5 Dragons. Dan Marois and James Desmarais looked NHL caliber and put on a highlight real with 2 goals for Marois and a goal and 5 assists for Desmarais. If your in the area check it out, 'cause for awhile last night I couldn't name an NHL player, for the thrill of these blue collar heros.
