This guy sounds like the real deal. If Bob Gainey would call me Saturday morning and say "Douper, what would you offer for Ovechkin?"....I would reply
Jose Theodore 18th Pick Overall Prospect of their choice
vs
Alex Ovechkin Olaf Kolzig
Here's why: Ovechkin could be the next Kovalchuk, he will play right away and he could fill our hole on the left wing on Ribiero's line. If this guy is that good, I'd go for it. I want this team to score and play more a fast paced type game.
Kolzig could platoon with Garon until Garon is ready to be the #1. This way Mathieu will have more GP, quicker and he'll get better quicker. When Kolzig leaves, Danis steps in as the backup.
Zednik Koivu Kovalev (Priority) Ovechkin Ribiero Ryder
Washington's view point:
#1 Goalie, Vezina Goalie, Charismatic person who could be the face of the team. Decent mid round pick. Pick of the litter of our prospects. A.K. C.H. R.H. etc....

It's an interesting proposal. It seems pretty fair IMO. However, from the Washington point of view, Ovechkin is one of the most hyped prospects of all time. To deal him away would likely be PR suicide (regardless of the return). McPhee isn't really looking to stock up on first rounders either, because he has a couple already. I think he's gonna do the obvious thing; the right thing for the Caps.

Ovcheckin reminds me of Speeza. Concensus #1, a certain NHLer but not the next one by a longshot.

But Spezza wasn't a consensus #1 and he was considerd a consolation prize when picked #2. That's why the Islanders traded the pick to the Sabres. They wouldn't have traded the #1.

Ovcheckin reminds me of Speeza. Concensus #1, a certain NHLer but not the next one by a longshot. I don't see that at all. Alexander is a strong two-way player with a serious physical presence. He's also a great lockerroom guy. None of the above can be said about Spezza. Jason has always rubbed me the wrong way. He comes across as more scuzzy and punk-like than Ribs ever did.

This guy sounds like the real deal. If Bob Gainey would call me Saturday morning and say "Douper, what would you offer for Ovechkin?"....I would reply Jose Theodore 18th Pick Overall Prospect of their choice vs Alex Ovechkin Olaf Kolzig Given that Kovalchuk was rumoured to cost us Garon, 2 1sts, Markov, and "any player" (often assumed to mean Zednik, as he was the best player on the roster), and some rumours had Theo being offered instead of Garon, so to me your offer seems terribly like a lowball. Getting Lindros was supposed to cost us Roy, Desjardins and Schneider, and a couple of firsts and 10 or 15 million bucks when the game wasn't as much big money... So I just don't see your offer as being in the ballpark.
