This year, as always, Canada had no NHL players...no locked-out players were on the roster.
Switzerland's HC Davos, bolstered by Joe Thornton, Rick Nash, and Martin St. Louis, won it today by a 2-0 count over a Czech team also boasting several NHL players.
Why weren't there any such players on Canada's team? Not everyone fled to Europe.

Habscheid told the media that, having to prepare the Olympic team and facing the possibility that the NHL players won't come over by then, as a deal hasn't been made between the NHL, NHLPA and the IIHF, he prefered to use players who will be available next winter. Also : all the NHL players who played at the Spengler Cup were under contract with there respective team, exept David Aebischer who was invited by Prague.
