ECHL.com Note – Kevin Kerr played in the ECHL with Cincinnati (1990-92), Birmingham (1992-93), Mobile (1998-99) and Toledo (2001-02), scoring 236 points (115g-121a) in 185 regular season games and 19 points (4g-15a) in 13 playoff games.
Scott Gruhl played for Richmond of the ECHL in 1994-96, scoring 156 points (77g-79a) in 109 regular season games and 26 points (12g-14a) in 24 playoff games, and helped the Renegades win the Jack Riley Cup in 1995.
FLINT, Mich. – Kevin Kerr scored his 664th career goal, a power-play goal at 4:45 of the second period in Flint’s 5-2 win against Fort Wayne in a United Hockey League game on Friday, top become the all-time minor league hockey leader for career goals. Kerr broke the record of Scott Gruhl, who scored 663 career goals from 1979-96.
“I’m glad it’s over,” said Kerr, who has suffered from injuries in recent years and had scored two goals in six games this season. “I didn’t want it going on and on. I don’t care how it went in, as long as it went in.”
The game was stopped for more than 10 minutes as Kerr celebrated on the ice with teammates and family, a congratulatory telegram from Gruhl was read and Kerr’s jersey was removed so it could be sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
