slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Toronto/2005/05/29/1061849-sun.htmlDad says playing in T.O. unappealing for Habs fan By STEVE SIMMONS -- Toronto SunSidney Crosby makes no secret of the fact he is a Montreal Canadiens fan. A lifelong fan. And if all the ping pong balls somehow bounce his way in an eventual NHL lottery to determine first pick for an eventual draft, Crosby would like nothing better than to play for the team he has grown up loving. "That would be his dream," said Troy Crosby, his father, also a longtime Habs fan. And what about the Leafs, we found ourselves asking? "When you like Montreal, the one team you don't like is the blue and white," said Crosby's dad. "He'd go to Toronto, but I can tell you, he wouldn't be happy about it."

I wouldn't want to play for the Leafs either.

I read that earlier today as well. Then again, he's a kid whose being honest. Too bad really. Some bud fans won't see it that way. It will be interesting to see what kind of reception he gets in the ACC.
Cheers.

Who's he kidding?
Everyone wants to play for the Leafs—that's what people around here keep telling me.
If it weren't for the Toronto Maple Leafs there wouldn't be an NHL. And Gary Bettman would still be dribbling in the NBA. And Bob Goodenow would still be grinding unionized workers at Unisys into the ground. And...

When I read that, I started crying. No, really, I did.....I have proof.
Can he be the next Richard or Beliveau? Can he?

If I or anyone else on this board had a chance to wear the CH, what we we do it for? It certainly would NOT be just for the MONEY. Is there any pride and desire left in the sports world or is everything about MONEY? Freaken MONEY? *cries again*

For God's sake don't throw them out. Just put them in a plain plastic bag and... Seriously, assuming the team that drafts him is willing to trade him if the price were right—what players could the Habs offer in exchange, without having executives on Crosby's team herniate themselves by laughing too hard?

You would have to trade most of our stars away for a team to give him up.
However, it wouldn't take long to build a team around him, free agents and what not.

While I'd be delirious in joy if we get Crosby (at any price, in any way), who in his right mind would trade Sidney Crosby at this point? Our only chances of getting him are those 2 balls we'll get in the loto...

We would only need to give up cash if he becomes a free agent.

Well even if he doesn't come to the Habs via the draft lottery, the fact that he really wants to play here bodes well for the future Habs. Meaning that when Crosby becomes a UFA it might not take much convincing for him to come to Montreal.

All this Leaf stuff is laughable! Its been soley created by the Toronto media,in hopes that should he get a lucrative offer from the new Toronto Marlies, the Leafs in turn could claim he is their property. Another desperate attempt to put a spin that Toronto is the center of the universe and the league would love to have the next marquee player playing there. Hey Sid!... pull a Lindros and demand to be traded to the Habs or better yet declare yourself a free agent. Not that I'm really endorsing such a move, but could you imagine the ire of th the Toronto media should Sid try and pull such a coup? HFTO

arrrrg. Just lost my post. Souray, Zednik, Kostitsyn, 2 first rounders and Theodore would be my offer. Interesting. Here is the exchange that was offered for Kovalchuk: Andrei Markov Richard Zednik Mathieu Garon 7th overall pick (Mike Komisarek) 25th overall pick (Alexander Perezhogin) Waddell asked for Théodore instead of Garon, and Savard blinked.

The question is would our team be better now without Markov, Zednik, Komi, Perezhogin and Theodore but with Kovalchuk....it's not like lots of free agents want to play with him in Atlanta. Why do some people think they would like to play with Crosby in Montreal? Crosby seems to be better than Kovalchuk and Montreal is no Atlanta but still the general picture is the same imo.

If the draft "ping pong ball" lottery goes through I have heard that Montreal would get two balls. Does anyone know how many teams get three and how many get two? It would be nice to have a shot at the first pick overall.

Each team starts with 4 balls than you substract one ball everytime you made the playoffs or had the #1 overall choice in the last 3 seasons.
So:
NY RANGERS 4 BUFFALO 4 FLORIDA 4 ATLANTA 4 PITTSBURGH 3 CAROLINA 3 CHICAGO 3 NASHVILLE 3 COLUMBUS 3 EDMONTON 3 CALGARY 3 MINNESOTA 3 PHOENIX 3 LOS ANGELES 3 ANAHEIM 3 MONTREAL 2 WASHINGTON 2 TAMPA BAY 2 SAN JOSE 2 DALLAS 2 PHILADELPHIA 1 NY ISLANDERS 1 NEW JERSEY 1 BOSTON 1 TORONTO 1 OTTAWA 1 DETROIT 1 ST LOUIS 1 COLORADO 1 VANCOUVER 1
