Wow, I didn't see St. Louis getting that big of return. If Pronger signs with Edmonton after this year it's a good deal imo, I can't wait to see Calgary-Edmonton games this year.

Reportedly signed a five year deal.

Brewer could reach those heights. Gamble on the Oilers part.

Brewer could reach those heights. Gamble on the Oilers part. Agreed, if we were to make an offer that was similar it would be something like Markov, Komisarek and more for Pronger.

Brewer could reach those heights. Gamble on the Oilers part. And Pronger's a big injury risk. Huge gamble for the Oilers, incredible trade for the Blues.

I agree, huge gamble for the Oilers. PR move, maybe? "Look, the lockout was worth it! We got Pronger!"
Pronger is clearly better than Brewer, but Brewer ain't too shabby, and his game is better suited for the "new NHL" if it ever arrives. Plus, he's still peaking. Not saying Pronger won't thrive, but I don't think the Blues will miss him all that much, not with Brewer and a couple of very good prospects coming as well.

Wow! Brewer AND Woywitka!
Great trade by St. Louis.
Getting Pronger is great for Edmonton too, but the Blues had their hands tied with Pronger so I'm surprised that Edmonton still had to give up this much.

Me thinks the Oilers got giddy with excitement and couldn't help themselves. This could turn out to bite them in the @ss for years to come if Pronger injury woes resurface as in the past. With his back against a wall, Pleau makes away like a bandito. Wow.

I've heard that he signed for 5 years... anybody knows for how much ? Some rumors have him signing for an average of 4.7M per year... If that's the case, then the Oilers are big time winners on this trade...

They gave up Brewer? He's not as good as Pronger, but he very well could have been. Regardless, nice to see the Oilers brass take a risk for a change; something we hardly ever see.

Regardless, nice to see the Oilers brass take a risk for a change; something we hardly ever see. It is nice to see. Nice to see "small market" Canadian teams getting big name talent. The Oilers get Pronger from the Blues and the Flames steal players away from the Red Wings and Flyers. The new NHL indeed.

... so the minimum payroll they must have for the next 5 years is 31.25M assuming Pronger will be the highest paid Oilers... still a good trade in my opinion... they have their franchise d-man, still some room under the salary cap....
