Just heard Darren Dreger on Sportsnet saying that Lou Lamouriello took this one "right between the eyes".
Apparently the Devils had offered Scott a five-year deal at $7.8 million per.....along with a promise that everything would be done to acquire brother Rob next year......and he takes less to play with his brother. Blood is thicker than money?
Talk about working hard to get the deal done......Anaheim GM Burke flew to Cranbrook to meet with both brothers.....then flew to meet with their agents....
Wonder how much travelling John Fergie Jr. has done? He's just watching his players fly out of town for good.

How lucky is Brian Burke. He just gets the GM job and lands the #2 pick. And then he has the good fortune to have Rob Niedermeyer on his team.

Tsk, Tsk, HA. Burke may not be a genius, but he is a very solid GM. It was reported that he flew up to Cranbrook (Niedermeyer's home town) personally, to discuss the offer with him. I's a long way from LA to Cranbrook and he could have picked up the phone instead. Maybe Scott appreciated the gesture, as well as the fact Rob is on the team.

I routinely fly/drive to meet potential new (large) customers. It's smart business to talk to your customer/franchise player in person before you do business. Mind you, my new customer business was sealed with a Tim Horton's Ice Cap. Must of deep freezed his brain to do business with me......

Good on Burkie for getting the deal done. He get's the biggest fish this year for $1 million less than what the Devils offered. That team will be fast this year. Not sure how good they will be in their own end, but once they get the puck look out.
