According to RDS, he just signed long term with Tampa for franchise player money.
I'll move this thread to non-habs in a couple of hours.

Not surprising. I'm pretty sure the whole "I'd love to play in Montreal" thing was posturing. It looks like Vinny is quite happy in TBay.

I'm not surprised. Let's face it, no one likes to move, and I would hardly call Vinny unhappy in Tampa. As long as they were willing to pay him the money, he was going to stay.
But can they afford Vinny, Richards, and St-Louis?
Gainey will build this team from the inside out. You never want to bank on being able to pluck a franchise player from another team. Build a solid team and sign players, possibly even stars to compliment what you already have.
Although we fans were hoping against hope that Vinny would be here next year, I highly doubt Gainey just had his plans for next summer ruined.

THF I don't know. Those always sting. But with Kovalev's coaching he should be able to maximize the benefit. ;D

LECAVALIER CLOSE TO DEAL WITH LIGHTNINGThe Tampa Bay Lightning appear close to locking up one of the key players from their Stanley Cup team. Vincent Lecavalier told TSN he's close to getting a deal done with the Lightning, and that an official announcement could come as soon as today. NHL sources have told TSN it's a four-year deal at $6.8 million a year. The big centre scored recorded 32 goals and 34 assists and was a +24 in 81 games with the Lightning in 2003-04 and had nine goals and seven assists in 23 playoff games. The first overall pick in the 1998 draft has spent his entire NHL career with Lightning and has career totals of 146 goals, 181 assists in 467 games. Lecavalier spent last season in Russia with Ak Bars Kazan where he scored 7 goals and nine assists in 30 games.

I can't see either St. Louis or Richards accepting less than Lecavalier.
Vinny's still living off of his potential and off of his #1 overall draft status, whereas both Richards and St. Louis have the NHL hardware to prove their worth.

You never want to bank on being able to pluck a franchise player from another team. Someone should tell the leafs. Maybe we should start a thread for all the potential UFA's that have now signed. Iginla, Thornton, Lecavalier. Who's next?

He said Lecavalier was willing to take less so that Tampa could sign Richards and St. Louis. If the Lighting are trying to repeat, Feaster's first order of business should be finding a top notch goalie. He won't win much with a 38 year old Sean Burke. Despite his long career, Burke has played in only 37 playoff games and 17 of those were in his first full seson with the Devils. www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid%5B%5D=674

You know, every time a player yodels that he wants to play for a "certain" team, it makes me want to scratch my head with my right foot. Soon, they are going to fit me with one of those cones that dogs wear......
Why is anyone suprised? Did you guys think that players actually care about where they play? It's about the money and NOTHING else. Maybe one in 20 players has enough integrity that they actually want ot play for a certain team and take less money to do so. The rest of the time it's just posturing to extract as much money as possible.
As for the amount?
Is Feaster CRAZY? That is TOO much money for Prince Vinny. WAY TOO MUCH. He is now getting paid the same amount as Thornton and Iggy. I don't care if he is a "home boy" or the Prince of Point Claire, I would take Iggy or Thorny WAY before Prince Vinny.
Screw him...and I hope Souray AND Komi crush him.

And one more thing...... Does anyone still believe that Crosby will sign with the HAb's in four years? If you do, I want to sell you some Bre-X stock at a "special" price.

Montreal has a path strewn with unrealized potential. It's the guys who produce that count more than the ones who never realize their potential. Isn't Dagenais the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the Hab's? (From the waist up and the neck down)

The rest of the time it's just posturing to extract as much money as possible. In the early hours after the collective bargaining agreement was signed, a popular theory circulated that the end of the insanity contract meant players might want to play for the colour of the sweater instead of the colour of the money. How quaint. How romantic, in an Original Six kind of way. How wrong it turned out to be Wayne Scanlan, Ottawa Citizen, August 17

Does anyone still believe that Crosby will sign with the HAb's in four years? If you do, I want to sell you some Bre-X stock at a "special" price. But Crosby's love for the Habs is genuine. He said all along that he wanted to play for Montreal and this was before he was being drafted, so we know that he's not saying it just for the money. The only way he comes to the Habs as an UFA is if the Habs offer him the maximum. I doubt that he would come to the Habs for less money when he knows that he could be earning the max on any other team.
