CBC strike appears to be resolved: www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/10/03/CBCLO20051003.htmlCBC, Canadian Media Guild reach memorandum of agreementThe Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and its biggest union, the Canadian Media Guild, reached a memorandum of agreement early Monday morning. The lockout affecting over 5,000 CMG employees was starting its 50th day. Guild spokesperson Karen Wirsig said details still had to be worked out. The agreement language has not yet been completed. A ratification vote would follow once language has been finalized, and back to work protocols are still being discussed. Federal Labour Minister Joe Fontana asked the CBC and the Guild to move their talks to Ottawa last week. They have been holding their discussions at the labour department offices, under the supervision of Elizabeth MacPherson, head of the federal mediation and conciliation service. The parties began a news blackout Thursday at 6 p.m., which was extended several times until the announcement was made early Monday. The CBC locked out its 5,500 CMG employees, journalists, program producers and technicians, on Aug. 15. Managers have been maintaining a reduced news service since the lockout began.
