McKenzie: Remember this Esposito

His name is Esposito, he wears no. 7 and he's scored eight goals in seven games.
But 16-year-old Angelo Esposito is not related to Hall of Famer Phil and he's not from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
This prolific and precocious 'Espo' is a born and raised Montrealer - his family owns the chain of Esposito grocery stores there - and he is ripping it up early in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season for Patrick Roy's Quebec Remparts.
After picking up just one goal and one assist in his first three games, the 6'1, 175 lb. centre has scored seven goals and 14 points in his last four games. His eight goals and 16 points put him second in the QMJHL scoring race.
The comparisons to Sidney Crosby are inevitable, especially since Esposito, like Crosby, played at Shattuck St. Mary's prep school in Minnesota before coming to junior. For what it's worth, Esposito has one more assist than Crosby had at the same age in his first seven games for Rimouski.
But in terms of style, he's more along the lines of a rangy centre like Vincent Lecavalier.
Esposito looks like a big timer. He has explosive, 'makes-you-go-wow' speed, which he credits to the figure skating he did until age 10. He has great vision and a terrific scoring touch. He's not just putting up points, he's been dominating with his play.
NHL scouts, who won't have a shot at him until the 2007 draft, are raving about his start to the season. And Hockey Canada's Director of Player Personnel Blair Mackasey is impressed, too.
Esposito is too young to be considered for Canada's National Junior Team - there is a policy that says young players must play in the Under-18 program before the World Juniors - but if he's available in April he'll get that Under-18 opportunity.
In the meantime, Angelo Esposito is certainly creating a big early-season buzz.
