You gotta love Pat Quinn. He finds new excuses and new things to complain about every year. Now it's the shootout that he hates because no other major sport has it except soccer. I have two comments regarding Quinn the Dinosaur's comments: 1. Is it bad to be different from most other North American sports? 2. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and they have shootouts. Maybe they are on to something.

he's probably trying to take the pressure off his players, for missing so many chances. Going to be an excuse filled year. Wait till the "we're playing in the toughest division in hockey" excuses start flying. Unfortunately for the Leafs its a valid excuse, but its the same for the Bruins, Ottawa, the Habs and Buffalo.

He'll be complaining louder after Monday's game in Ottawa. Another lead lost in the third (althought they did come back after being down 4-2)....and another shootout loss to the Sens.
But Quinn shouldn't be complaining too loudly. Leafs had 9 PPs and scored 3. And the refs missed at least 3 glaring Leaf penalties in the third. If there's one team I hate to see getting away with the old crap, it's Toronto.

I had to shake my head before considering typing this, but he should have used Czerkawski in the shootouts instead of Allison. Mariusz at least has some deking ability. The shootout isn't entirely about who has a hot hand, or played a good game. You have to utilize your skill players. Allison looked like he was gonna fall over last night against Hasek.

Quinn doesn't like the shootout because he's lost two of them.

He was in fine form last night complaining that Thrashers players were out to injure.
He has a short and / or a selective memory. He failed to mention the Islanders series where Tucker blew out Peca's knee and Roberts rammed Jonsson from behind. I guess it's OK when his players are doing it.

I hate the Leafs as much as any Habs fan, but the Thrashers play last night was dirty. The hit by Sutton on Tucker was a blatant head shot, and attempt to injure. Sending goons like Exelby out to fight Lindros is bush league. If that's the game the Thrashers are going to play, I hope they finish 2-80 and Kovalchuk gets a season ending injury.

True enough but guys like Tucker have been playing this way for years. I can't feel much sympathy for them, especially when some one like Domi of all people uses the term " bush league"

I lost respect for Tucker, as a player, after the Peca incident. I used to appreciate his role as a pest with decent offencive ability, but the hit on Peca exposed him as a dirty player.

Two things:
* The penalty shot has been used internationally now for years. It's bittersweet with me. While I wouldn't want to see a playoff position decided over a penalty shot, I think it's about time we caught up with the rest of the world.
* What goes around, comes around and if true, we haven't even scratched the surface with Tucker yet. Yes, Sutton's hit on Tucker was a cheap shot, but Tucker has done more suckering in his career than any of us can count. You live by the sword, you'll die by the sword ... or knees, or elbows, or ....
Cheers.
