Was looking over the rookies on TSN.ca. It's pretty stiff around the league. There's a lot of hype about the Crosby/Ovechkin race, but Eric Staal is earning quite a bit of respect.
Here are the stats as of now and there is some pretty tough competition:
GP G A Pts
Eric Staal, CAR 7 5 7 12 Sidney Crosby, PIT 8 2 9 11 Alexander Ovechkin, WAS 9 6 4 10 Pavel Vorobiev, CHI 8 5 4 9 Marek Svatos, COL 7 5 2 7 A. Perezhogin, MTL 7 3 4 7
and
GP W GA SV%
Ryan Miller 8 6 2.70 .914

Oveckin's numbers are impressive because he has less to work with. Crosby has more talent around him but Pitt still hasn't won a game. It's going to be a tough vote but I think that Crosby will win it if the point total is close. BTW, I just went to www.hockeydb.com. It shows that Eric Stall played a full season with Carolina in 2003-04. I don't think he is classed a rookie.

Oveckin's numbers are impressive because he has less to work with. He's been spectacular on a poor team, for sure. When comparing him with Crosby, another thing to consider is that Ovechkin is 20 and beginning his 5th year of pro hockey. Crosby is 18, and in his 1st year pro.

If they ever move Crosby up with Mario . . . . . . the Penguins might win a game
