Here's a new one I've never heard until now, got it off another board.
Plekanec and a second round pick to NJ for Jeff Freisen. (Gainey trying to get Lou to take Plekanec straight up)
I'd take it with a grain of salt.

That would be awsome. I really like Freeze.
It would also make sense in the salary dump run that NJ is in...

Freezer's a good player, but where would he play?

Freezer's a good player, but where would he play? LW with Ribs and Ryder. This would be an awesome trade for the Habs. With the addition of Friesen, they would have one of the best group of top six forwards in the East.

That would be awsome. I really like Freeze. It would also make sense in the salary dump run that NJ is in... The guy has great skating ability & is still relatively young - he just turned 29. I don't know the Habs cap number. The NHLPA site shows Friesen making $2.28 million.

No deal. Youth will be served, Cheaper. More cap-effective. More upside.

I've skated with Friesen before (well, not so much with him as behind him). He is the fastest skater I've ever been on the ice with and that is likely at 1/4 speed. (I played pickup with him and McCabe in Calgary) a very nice guy.
As much as I like Plekanec, Friesen is a proven NHLer who brings us all the speed plus a little more size than Plekanec. A little pricey at $2.3, but I think we have the room.
I'm going to give Bob the go ahead on this one.

And we also have to look at the fact that Plekanec might get caught in the prospect squeeze. As of right now, there doesn't seem to be a spot for Pleks in the top six or even the top nine. He's probably pencilled in for fourth line duty so if we could swap him for a proven top-six forward it's a win for us.

How long is Friesen's contract ? To me, that's what it's all about from now on, when you get a player, it's either for just that contract or until he's 27. From there on in, it's much murkier...
If Friesen has 3 years I do it for sure. 2 years? Not so sure.
Friesen would be able to be a top-6 forward and a fill-in at center when someone gets hurt. Just like Richards, a versatile forward, and we could use one.
Only bad thing - we lose a good prospect and essentially block another one's progression.

The other factor is that as Lamoriello gets closer to the Cap deadline, he has to get more desparate. Why trade Pleks and a 2nd. And I'm not keen on picking up 29 year olds for youngsters unless they're world class. Friesen, is not in my opinion, world class, though a decent player.

A lady by the name of Yolande Gingras on another board who claims to have inside sources has claimed to be aware of 3 deals being worked by Gainey as we speak. 1- Ryder, Hainsey and a 3rd round pick to Tampa for Brad Richards. (hold up is Richards agreeing to a deal in principle with Gainey and that Tampa wants the 3rd round pick to be a 1st.) 2- Plekanec and a second rond pick to NJ for Jeff Freisen. (Gainey trying to get Lou to take Plekanec straight up) 3- Koivu, Theodore and Rivet to Florida for Luongo, Horton and a 2nd round pick. (Theo MUST be signed BEFORE mike pulls the trigger) Just putting this out there for what it's worth. mb4.scout.com/fmontrealcanadiensfrm1.showMessage?topicID=8171.topicFor what its worth, Yolande Gingras is right about 80% of the time.

Is she implying that Gainey is trying to completely revamp the team by making all three trades, or that it is Option A, Option B, and Option C with gainey likely to make one of those deals? The original Florida rumour made no sense to me without getting a top six forward in return. This Horton deal is just a tweak on the old but makes a tad more sense, but I still think it is BS. Can Florida even afford the extra 6.9376 million in cap money? The NJ option seems the most likely of the three to be possible. Although I would wonder if Gainey suggested Pleks, or did he do the same thing he did in the Kovalev deal and gave Lou a list to choose from. Seems to be an awful lot of rumours swirling around the Habs as of late. Well you know the old saying .... idle hands are the devil's tools.

I would do the Plekanec/Frisesen trade in a heartbeat. I think we have a surplus of forward prospects with similar profiles (Plekanec, Perezhogin, Kostitsyn) and it makes sense to cash in one of them for some established talent like we did with Balej for Kovalev.
The other trades strike me as a bit too radical for Gainey - kind of an extreme makeover. That's not Gainey's style. I highly doubt there is anything there.

I certainly wouldn't shoot the messsenger. In fact I hope he & she are right. The trades would be great. They sound too great to be true. If Yolande is right 80% of the time maybe two of the three should come to fruition. I doubt it will happen. Richards and Freisen could put us over the top and Horton is a stud. With that kind of scoring we could be like the Oilers of Old and win 9 - 7 shootouts with Price and Danis alternating taking target practice.
