Sources are saying that montreal is talking to Scott Young & Petr Bondra and are still in talks with the Devils.
I think Scott Young would be a great addition to the Habs. He's a Great penalty Killer, he and Bonk would be great together.

Scott Young makes sense. We could use him on either the third or fourth line.
Bondra, OTOH, makes no sense.
PS. Which sources are these rumours coming from?

Of course you can name your source...provided it is a valid one. Cheers, CO

It's an interesting tidbit. Why is it that I have Randy McKay flashbacks though?

Young (Scott) is superfluous. Young (Habs) are desirable.

People like to take something and make it something its not, Code doesn't do that.

I see this kind of speculation in Toronto all the time.
People take a past connection - in this case that Scott Young played in Dallas - and then they draw a line to Gainey. It gives the rumor a grain of truth.
The guy will be 38 in a few weeks. Give the youngsters a chance!

Scott Young is a good player and for an equal salary I'd gladly take him over Sundstrom...

He's 38 years old, has lost more than a step, played 3 pro games in 2005-06, scored 8 goals in 53 games for Dallas in 2003-04 with a -15 differential. There are reasons why is he is still unsigned. No thanks. Let him retire with some dignity. Sundstrom right now is a much better player.

I think Gainey is just kicking tires, looking to see who's out there and how much they cost, if he can get a good deal on someone and add some depth then he'll pull the trigger. Until then he is just window shopping.

There is a way to keep both of them on the Habs. Sunny could still play on the third line and Young could play RW on the fourth line.... the only thing is that it might cause someone like Perezhogin to lose his spot. In that case it would be bad move IMO. Zednik-Koivu-Kovalev
Dagenais-Ribeiro-Ryder
Bulis-Bonk-Sundstrom
Higgins-Begin-YoungBut then again he'll be 38 soon. I guess I didn't realize that Young was so Old. If he's almost going to be 38 then I would pass on him and play the kids.

Sounds like Gainey is going after a player he knows. I'm sort of mixed on this one. Young is getting on in age at 38. But, he does bring experience and a winning attitude to the dressingroom.
Hmm ... I'd say bring him on if he's interested in playing for Bob.
Cheers.

I think someone is just making an easy Dallas Stars connection between Young & Gainey and drawing a conclusion that sounds plausible but is unlikely because of his age.

I honestly don't know the sources, JKR. I actually read your post earlier in the thread and thought that if the scenario was plausible the Dallas connection might be common denominator. However, I'll agree insomuch as any talk without substantiated sources remains just talk. Wouldn't be surprised if the Leafs start talking to him actually. He'd fit right in with the Geritol Club. Cheers.

"If Ray Charles went to the plate and swung the bat at random, he would have a better batting average than Palmero!"

I would still rather take a chance on Deadmarsh. Jason Doig is also interesting. I would prefer him over Vandermeer or Ivanis. He has played both forward and defence in the past and is as tough as nails too.

Wow, never heard this one... Man am I glad it was nothing more than a rumour though... Talk about taking a step backwards, we just got rid of Juneau, Perreault and Dackell finally... Randy McKay was a great comparison... Young won't do anything in St Louis, we are done with signing old and washed up players... Let the youth thrive baby
