I was really expecting teams like Columbus and Florida to really improve this year. Not to mention that San Jose and Anaheim are border-line .500 clubs.
Boston was supposed to be a powerhouse and I don't know what has happened with the St. Louis Blues. Yikes.

Raycroft, Raycroft, Raycroft. It's all about goaltending.

I voted for San Jose. I thought they should win that division (and they still might), so their sluggish start is a surprise to me.
I also would have voted for Atlanta. I thought they would be a "surprise" team, as they are built for the new rules, and don't play in the toughest division. But I guess going through 6 different goalies will put a real crimp in any team's plans. Where would Montreal be with their #6 goalie in nets? Who is their #6 goalie? I don't think Price is even signed, is he?
St. Louis doesn't surprise me, they've been on a slow slide for years now, and Patrick Lalime isn't the answer.
Boston has had some injury problems to start the year, and their defense has been even worse than expected. But I still think they'll be all right in the end.

Not all that surprised by Boston. They have a strong lineup of forwards, but poor defence, and a softmore goalie. They've also had significant player change-over, which I'm sure has affected team chemistry. I'm also not sold on Thornton as a leader.
I expected more from Florida with the additions of Niewendyk, Roberts, and Martin coaching.

Tampa Bay won the first Stanley Cup of their 5 year dynasty of young guns, big, fast, speedy. They didn't even last as long as Jessica Simpsons marriage. Go figure. They aren't in the tank, but they are a big disappointment. Shows what a little greed can do.
