It all depends on your POV. I'm sure this is not going down well in Finland. I get the feeling that in Europe, your first loyalty is to your country, not your club, so I imagine he may get a lot of bad press.
However, Finland is blessed lately with good goalkeepers. I think Nittymaki & Toivonen may be next on their list.

Saw the Hotstove tonight. Duhatschek said that Kiprusoff told the Finns before the selection that he would not play. They went ahead & picked him anyway.
Kiprusoff ends up as the one that looks bad.

Bob McKenzie (paraphrased) said that more and more players may do the same thing for the next Olympics. Where does your loyalty truly lie?
If it's with the people who sign your paycheques, you'll recuperate and rest for the stretch drive and playoffs. If it's with your country, you'll risk further injury and the "Olympic hangover" which could undermine your NHL team's chance for a Cup.
