Sportsnet.ca -- The Calgary Flames will be without the services of veteran defenceman Bryan Marchment after an MRI revealed severed damage to Marchment's left knee.
Sportsnet has learned Marchment's MRI revealed a torn ACL and MCL, leaving Marchment to contemplate season-ending surgery. If the Flames and Marchment decide to avoid the knife and try to go the rehab route, there exists a slight chance Marchment may try to play again this season -- without the ACL ligament. The decision should be made within the next 48 hours.
Breaks your heart, doesn't it? How fitting is it that this goof kills his season, and possibly his career, after a knee on knee hit? Absolutely poetic, eh CO?
;D

How did it happen? I missed it. The usual marchment crap. He took a knee on knee run at Jason Allison. I'm not a leafs fan but after what he's been through Allison didn't deserve this. Fortunately he played the next day. As far as marchment - couldn't happen to a nicer guy. You're right - this is poetic justice.

You can be a hard-nosed d-man (Robinson, Foote, Baun, Boivin)...and avoid the dirty stuff.
Says a lot for his character.
Your nominations for Team Dirt (not one-time offenders....but players whose careers were/are full of cheap shots)
GOAL
Ron Hextall, Billy Smith.....please add more....
DEFENSE
Bryan Marchment, Gary Suter, Darius Kasparaitus,.....more...
FORWARD
Dale Hunter, Dave Schultz, more........

Not so much this year so far, but add Bryan McCabe to that list as well as Darcy Tucker.

I wonder if some of you have even seen the footage where the injury occured. It never ceases to amaze me how people jump on the 'Mush is a dirty player' bandwagon regardless of his actions. Any rational person could see that the play was not a dirty hit, but an accidental and awkward open ice collision where Allison's knee hit Marchment's. Call it karma if you will but certainly not a dirty hit. .........I think the Flames will greatly miss Mush. He was a good 7th dman and now the Flames do not have a reliable replacement. When they traded 'the doors' they left themselves w/o injury depth. Regehr Jr will have to play well or a trade will happen before the deadline. When I went to the Dome over Xmas I could often tell when Mush was on the ice b/c the opposition players were often looking for him and quite tentative. It was amazing to see the effect he had on others.......The thing that surprised me most about Mush was how articulate and intelligent the guy is; I always assumed he was a Meathead before I saw some interviews several years ago. How ironic that his career is probably over due to a knee on knee collision.

How ironic that his career is probably over due to a knee on knee collision. You call it "ironic". So, even though this certain hit was accidental...you still agree that he has been a knee-hunter throughout his career. Yes, it is ironic. And as long as Allison is okay, I'd say it's karma. He took runs at many players' knees over the years, threatening their careers. Here's a link to an ESPN Readers' Poll on Dirty Players. Marchment is #8. espn.go.com/page2/s/list/readers/dirtiest/players.htmlClaude Lemieux made it to #7. As instrumental as he was in our 86 Cup, his play evolved from a pest who could score big goals....to diver, faker, and cheap-shot artist who could score big goals. That hit on Draper was reprehensible.

the Flames will not miss Mush and his brutal giveaways, stupid penalties, etc. He's nothing but a 7th d-man fill-in. And Richie Regehr will fill that role just fine.

I saw it and I'd say it was the typical Marchment type hit. He doesn't stick his knee way out, but it was unnecessary and fitting.
