VANCOUVER (CP) - The Vancouver Canucks acquired forward Jozef Balej and a conditional draft pick from the New York Rangers for forward Fedor Fedorov.
Balej, 23, spent the 2004-'05 season with Hartford of the AHL, registering 20 goals and 22 assists in 69 games played. Prior to the lockout, Balej had a goal and four assists in 13 games with the Rangers.
The six-foot, 190-pound Balej is a native of Myjava, Slovakia, and was originally selected in third round, 78th overall, by the Montreal Canadians in the 2000 NHL entry draft.
Fedorov, 24, the younger brother of Anaheim Mighty Ducks star Sergei Fedorov, spent the NHL lockout in Russia, splitting his season between Spartak and Magnitogorsk. In 29 games, he had seven goals and 10 assists.
The six-foot-four, 217-pound Fedorov appeared in 50 games with the AHL's Manitoba Moose during the 2002-'03 season, registering 10 goals and 23 assists. He also played in seven games with Vancouver, earning an assist.
Fedorov was originally Tampa Bay's seventh choice, 182nd overall, in '99 NHL draft but re-entered the draft in 2001 and was Vancouver's second pick, 66th overall.
