To think at one time I thought he'd make a great pesty Hab!
Racial slurs and over the line comments on and off the ice have earned him the respect of no one and garnered him a spot on the list of most hated people in hockey. Most recently today, the LA Kings have sent him packing for the remainder of the season after an altercation took place with an assistant coach at practice earlier. He's a UFA July 1, but who in hell would want him? The Toronto Maple Leafs?
I've heard of guys playing themselves out of a career with drinking, drug abuse, injury or just sucking but never due to verbal diarrhea. Mathew Barnaby came close but woke up in time to save himself.
See ya at Home Depot, Sean.
What an idiot.

This guy is an embarrassment to all hockey player. Past and present.

Yep, perfect sidekick for Tucker. Or replacement for Domi. Of course, he'll go to Toronto and get the benefit of the doubt.
Likely one of the reasons the Kings' play fell off the chart in the second half.

"You're the reason the league doesn't have a national television deal. You're a (terrible) announcer and you were a (terrible) player," Avery said during the exchange.
Hayward responded: "How would you know? When I played, you were in your third year of eighth grade." www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/news_story/?ID=161766&hubname=nhl-kings

I find those comment funny, as Hayward has a couple of Jennings Trophys in his case. Does Avery have any... I thought not...

Avery is UFA this summer . . . and someone is likely to pick him up as a fourth liner. Maybe they will put sensitivity training shut-your-pie-hole training as a precondition to a contract.

Like him or not, he is a very effective player and any team could use his skills on the ice. He just needs to be put in his place and get his head screwed on straight. I wonder if he would respect a hard nosed guy like Sutter or Keenan. I'm curious too see if he can get his Saperlipopette together or if his bad attitude, ignorance, and immaturity will end his career.

Unfortunately I had to transplant myself to Southern California in Sep 03 (and I still hate it here) to stay employed. We have an ECHL team in San Diego. My account manager is a Kings fan. He lived in Pasadena (next to LA) when he was growing up. He said that although Avery had made some comments, his racial slur comments were taken out of contents and really weren't like what was report. That aside, he said Avery is a head case just like Billy Tibbets was (do you remember Billy, the felon the Flyers signed a few years ago?) He was working for the Flyers as an account manager when the Flyers signed Billy and he said the fans were in an outrage over it. I told him I knew that because I was on a forum filled with Flyers fans. The Gulls signed Billy Tibbets so I got to see his headcase problems up close instead of just in games on TV. Ed is glad the Kings sent Avery packing because he was a cancer on the team because of his headcase problems.
It was bad enough having Tibbets on my ECHL team, I do not want headcase Avery in Toronto and I hope no one else does either. So far, no one on my forum has said they want him. It's bad enough we have had Domi, Belak and Berg. It would be terrible to have a headcase on the team. Belfour was enough of a headcase for me.

Isn't is ironic that Avery plays a guy in "The Rocket" that makes ethnic slurs at french canadians? Talk about a role that was made for him.

Doug McLean was on OTR earlier this week and Lansberg (sp?) asked him if he would take Avery on his team. He let out a very simple, yet meaningful: NO. Avery went from being an effective pest on the ice to being a complete moron and distraction to his team. I think his negatives outweight by far any positives he brings and IMO, many GM, like McLean, will want to steer away from that disturber. He'd definitely fit in great with the Leafs though .

He'd definitely fit in great with the Leafs though . tsk, tsk. Shame on you, Doc!! No Leafs fans I know have even brought up the subject of wanting Avery. I haven't been around any of the Rose Coloured Glasses contingent, so I don't know if they have brought up Avery, but I'm sure if you see Avery mentioned by Leafs fans being on the team, it has to be that contingent.
