Hark! From afar come the melifluous tones of a gravitationally challenged soprano clearing her throat.

Better put her off, TH; the aria has yet to start.
Fernando freakin' Pisani!

Glad to see the two-forward back (Stillman to Staal) gaffe pass that led to Pisani's short-handed OT winner. Staios was in the box for what Ryan Smyth called a "suspect" trip (about which I agree). Could be a turning point....if Edmonton wins Game 6, all bets are off for Game 7.
Cole, Neale and the CBC production angle certainly seemed biased toward Carolina in the third period.
Rexall Place will be jumpin' on Saturday. Business-wise, the Oilers get 11 of 12 possible home playoff games this year. Must be nice.

Could be a turning point....if Edmonton wins Game 6, all bets are off for Game 7. Devorski basically handed the Cup to Carolina and they blew it. Had the Cup been decided on a penalty, I would've hoped the NHL would have reviewed their "New NHL" concept. Right now it's nothing more than a phrase officials can use to defer responsibility for calling whatever game they choose. Their inexperience or ineptness not withstanding. I thought the play was much faster than Cole could cover it. In the OT, Cole even let a personal opinion slip when the penalty was called; " ... it's as if it (Carolina's pending Cup win) was in the cards ..." After that I got the impression that Cole really wanted Edmonton to win. Cheers.

Should be one hell of a game tonight!!!! Let's hope the referees ease up on all the penalties. The last couple of games have been a farce, and it's especially hurting the Oilers because their powerplay has been so ineffective.

I'm looking forward to this one. I'm house sitting at my parents, and have been enjoying the games in HD, which is just amazing (also watching lots of World Cup in HD, and the new season of Deadwood).
The Edmonton crowd will be in hysterics as the Oil play their last home game of the year. I think the tide may have turned with Smyth and the coin, key injuries to Carolina, and the Canes losing the way they did in game 5. I'm calling 5-1 Oilers tonight. Kudos to Smyth for digging that coin out. That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time in messing with the other team's heads.

The Oilers have probably been outplayed in all but the first game of this series, and the Canes and Brind'amour look to be on a mission. If Edmonton wins this game I think it will be close, maybe going to OT again, but I could easily see Carolina winning 3-1 or 4-1, especially if the reffing remains as it has and the Oilers continue to struggle on the powerplay. The only way I can see the Oilers with an easy win is if Cam Ward cracks under the pressure.

Ouch, Erik Cole is in - Carolina is hurting, and Cole really isn't ready to play. He's got spunk and he's involved, but he really doesn't have much timing out there, he shouldn't be touching the puck.
Still, I'm hoping Edmonton can pull this off. Edmonton has always been my second-favourite team (other than when they had Kovalenko).
---
Carolina had a strong last 5 minutes.... but I think after 40 that Edmonton will find a way to hang in there.

3-0 Ed with 11 to go. I never thought they'd survive losing their goalie. They did.
Good for them.

That was one motivated Oilers team. Right off the bat Grapes said, "... there's no excuse for losing tonight (for the Oilers) ..."
I also thought that Laviolette's second period time out was a good call. He dressed his team down pretty good and I'd love to have been able to hear some of the adjectives he was using.
Still, it didn't phase the Oilers who were relentless all night.
Who wants it more? We'll see.
Cheers.

Carolina just looks like they have run out of gas. They have just 18 shots in the last 4 periods plus the OT. Pathetic effort for a team that looked poised to win the Cup a few days ago. They have had 2 - 0 and 3 - 1 leads and now it looks like they are on the verge of becoming the 2nd biggest chokers ( I hate that word but I can't think of anything else right now) in Cup final history. If that isn't enough motivation I don't know what is. I guess they have to look at the 94 Rangers for inspiration.

That's probably it all right: who wants it most, the crowd factor, and ironically, not wanting it too much>

Have the Canes run out of gas?
I'd like to have gone to an Oilers game, and hold up a sign which says, "Hey, Williams! High-stick your way out of THIS one!"
EDIT: I think taking the Sabres to 7 is really showing its signs on Carolina. Edmonton, on the other hand, hasn't had any series go longer than 6 games until now.
It's all about fatigue, and the Oilers are a well-coached team.
It's going to be a great game. Hopefully, Edmonton can take it.

Perhaps the insertion of Erik Cole disrupted some Carolina team chemistry. Who knows?
All I hope is that an "over-the-glass" penalty doesn't decide this one.

Edmonton has played 4 lines and has had long rest periods, Carolina plays mostly 3 lines and hasn't had a week off to recover after a short playoff series.

It doesn't get any better than game seven for the cup. I've got a ton of respect for members of each club. I'm calling this one 2-1 Oilers in overtime. I've always wanted to see overtime to decide the cup, and I think it's going to happen. Torres with the winner.

Staios dove on the puck in the crease. Why wasn't that a penalty shot?

Staios dove on the puck in the crease. Why wasn't that a penalty shot? Because Markkanen touched it first...and there was a delayed penalty to Edmonton for high sticking. High-sticking.....hmmm, which reminds me....the ONLY Cup-raiser I booed was Justin Williams. Ever since Dis posted that Williams' infraction was the result of the upward motion of an intended slash on Koivu rather than an attempted stick lift, I've been on his case. Congrats to both teams.... I don't know what came first (chicken/egg philosophy): the Oilers not shooting enough on the PP....or the Canes getting in the lanes. But, oh my, did the Oilers ever remind me of the Habs tonight. A botched 5-on-3 and a botched late call with a chance to tie it.

Congrats to the Canes.
I guess we lost to the eventual Stanley Cup champs again, although pretty lousy consolation.
Onto the draft on Saturday!

[ I don't know what came first (chicken/egg philosophy): the Oilers not shooting enough on the PP....or the Canes getting in the lanes. The Oilers not shooting came first... they did the same thing early on in the Sharks series. Remember the 5 on 3 where 2 of the 3 had broken sticks (I think that was against the Sharks)? I don't think the Oilers got one shot.

How great was the second intermission? Carolina's up 2-0, and HNIC decides that Ron MacLean and Kelly Hrudey should spend the entire time talking with Hurricane colour-man, Tripp Tracy, about how good Carolina is. I mean really....how many Hartford-Carolina fans are in HNIC's audience? I'm sure the thousands that filled Rexall Place really enjoyed that extended segment. Could you imagine if they did that in Game 7 of a Habs'-Carolina series? We'd all be flippin' out.

Congrats to the Canes. I'm happy for most of the guys on that team (Justin Williams need not apply, however).

(Justin Williams need not apply, however). Watching him hold a blunt object over his head brought back memories of Game 3 in Round 1.
