According to reports, the Los Angeles Kings are pursuing Florida Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo.
The L.A. Times reported on Wednesday that the Kings and Panthers are believed to be discussing a multi-player deal that would include Kings' forwards Alexander Frolov and Dustin Brown along with goaltender Mathieu Garon.
Kings' general manager Dean Lombardi declined comment when contacted by the paper.
Luongo is a restricted free agent, and the Panthers have been unable to work out a long-term deal. The Miami Herald reported on Tuesday that Panthers general manager Mike Keenan said that the team would explore all options when it came to Luongo. Related Info

Brown, the 13th overall selection in the 2003 Entry Draft, notched 14 goals and 14 assists while playing on the wing last season.
Garon had 31 wins with a 3.22 goals-against average with a .894 save percentage.

That essentially boils down to :
Huet, Bonk, Frolov, and Brown for Luongo.
Still not worth it in my books, but there is absolutely no market for a disgruntled golatender who wants a no-trade clause next year.
Now the Kings have even turned against Mathieu "You can be a back-up goalie too" Garon.

Rumors were flying last week that Detroit wants Luongo. Thought about posting the article; now I can't find it.

Ottawa should make a bid for him, if anything. Their goaltending has been brutal year in and year out.

I think you're being a tad unfair - the rumours aren't that LA wants to replace Garon by anyone around, just that they want one of the top guys out there. But you do have a point that Garon has proven, in LA, not to be the best thing since sliced bread with Nutella. But that doesn't mean he isn't a pretty good goalie. If Gainey had traded Theo but kept Garon, he would've been in a position to get us a better return on Theo (though of couse, we would never have gotten Huet, which goes to show that being a GM is a tough job, since there's a lot of chance involved)
