I would see if he would want to join the Habs. Imagine Bonk centering the 3rd line and Marchant the 4th. This way we don't have to see Dagenais on the ice again!
Perezhogin Koivu Zednik Ryder Ribiero Higgins Bullis Bonk Sundstrom Begin Marchant Plekanek
He would bring speed and grit to the 4th line. I think Marchant and Begin would be awesome together.
I know 2.47 million is a bit much for a 4th liner but what he could bring to the table would be great.

Apparently, it's only on the way back up that half his salary would have to be paid by the team losing him.
IMO Marchant isn't good enough to be worth losing most of our extra cap room over, so I wouldn't pick him up if we aren't otherwise unloading a (significant) player, unless he were being called back up.... at 1.2 million, I'd be tempted, though it's for 3 more years, that's getting to be quite the long-term commitment.
Just letting go of Dagenais (even if Columbus were to take him, for example), won't solve the lack of cap-room issue. At this point in the season I'd want to keep as many doors open as possible, and getting locked-down for future seasons simply isn't good management these days - which is why I'm still iffy on the Kovalev contract, though I fully recognize his usefulness.
Unless Bonk, Rivet or Souray are on their way out at the same time, I can't see us adding Marchant.

I've always liked Marchant since his Edmonton days and think his speed would fit in well with the Habs. He has great wheels and shows great hustle. But the only move I foresee Gainey pulling the trigger on is for defensive help.

Not only is the price tag expensive this year for what you would get, but he is also signed for three years after this (moving up to $2.66M in the last year). For a 32 year old who with hands of a stone-like substance, could be a bit much for most teams on which to take a chance. That, and the Habs have a number of younger, cheaper guys of a similar mould who bring some higher offensive upside methinks and could be around a lot longer.

Sat no to drugs.........say no to Marchant.
NOBODY wants him because he too expensive for what he brings. We already have high energy solutions growling on the farm.
