Auld/Bertuzzi for Theo/Souray/1st
According to Ecklund Tampa is dangling Brad Richards to get some goaltending help. Montreal would be interested.

From a personnal standpoint, I do not believe that the Bolts are indeed shopping their team leader not that we have the players to land him if they do.

I don't think Theodore would do anything to help their goaltending situation, or salary cap situation - which are the only reasons Tampa would trade Richards.

Why would Mtl be interested in trading Theodore for Richards? All it does is open up a bigger hole in nets. Do you really thing that Gainey is ready to hand the #1 goalie duties to Huet? I certainly don't think so. Richards is not the answer to what's ailing the team. They have a porous defence that gets pushed around very easily.

...and furthermore, do you really believe that TB and Mtl would make a trade with each other? They're both in the same conference fighting for the last few playoff spots.

MONTREAL WANTS RICHARDS (e3) 01/31/2006 @ 05:10 PM Very few teams would not want Richards. If they want him they will have to get in line. As Andrew said - the reason Richards would be traded is to help the Bolts with their cap issues. How does that happen if they pick up Thoedore's contract?

I certainly wouldn't turn my back on Richards, but there are too many variables involved with him coming to Mtl especially in a trade for Theodore. Can't see it happening but it sure makes for fun talk.

Agree with the long-term contract point, but, I still find it hard to believe that either team would trade within their own conference.

We need help on D of course, but, when an offer presents itself and it's too good to be true, what do ya do?
You would turn down Richards because we have more pressing needs on D? By God, you make room for Richards and build around him.
Anyway, nothing's gonna happen in the next two and a half hours...gametime!

Eklund is saying some TB guys want Theo.
Fine, give him to them. Right now, I'd love to face the Lightning in the playoffs if we have Richards and they have Theo...

I can't believe this trade hinges on Red Light Theodore... Sorry I can't. Don't buy it. Nope. Niet. Tampa would clog their cap space and trade a franchise forward (their locker room leader) for arguably the worst starter in the league this season ? Either this trade is waaaaaaaaaaay bigger than Theodore (Koivu? + ?) or the rumor has no basis.

The pressing need is on D but if you have achance to acquire a #1 centre you do it and then figure out how to solve the D problem later. Tampa must have a suspicion that Richards will leave next year and wants to get something in return. Maybe they believe Theo needs to get out of Montreal to get his mojo back. I still think we need to sweeten the pot. I would trade Theodore plus a prospect like Plekanec or a pick for Richards and then pick up a veteran goalie on the cheap someplace else.

I would think that TBay wouldn't pcik up Theo unless they could dump Grahame or Burke. Burke has a slightly bigger salary but also has a better GA average and save % (though in less games). I'd go pick -- we've waved enough of our prospects bye-bye.
