Tanny has work out his welcome with his recent play. For the right price, I wouldn't mind him. He's 26 and hitting his prime.
Unfortunatly, I think he is going to cost too much to acquire.

Gainey missed the boat on getting Tanguay.
When he gave Theo away (yes it was a blantant giveaway considering what value we got out of Aebischer, and now we have 2 goalies who want all the minutes next year) I was a proponent of not asking for a goalie in return. We had a goalie who was, at that moment in time, one of the best in the league, and we had a back-up who had better numbers than most back-ups. Our only expendable assest was used to get something we had an abundance of in return ... it should have been used to get a forward off of the Avs line-up. Theo straight up for Tanguay? I think Lacroix would have lost sleep not doing it. Heck even Theo and a toss in for Tanguay and a late pick. At least we were getting something in return we needed. I would have even lived with Theo for Lappierre and a draft pick ..... but what we got in return sickens me (not that Abby is bad, he is not, we just didnt need another goalie)

I can draw the conclusion that it did nothing to improve our team's chances for the 2006 playoff run. We all thought that we would make the playoffs, and we all knew we had as good a chance as anybody to upset a few teams. Imagine if Gainey actually improved the team in that deal .... we could still be alive, I mean why can't we be the Ducks, Sabres, Sharks, or Oilers? We lost 4 one goal games ... some added scoring power and we dont lose to the Canes and the Senators don't exactly walk over us either.

True Skilly but the true measure of this deal will be what happens to Aebisscher in the near future. Also, I think it shows that Gainey was not comfortable to go with the duo of Huet / Danis for the rest of the season. Sure, now that we can look back, Huet turned out to be great. I'm sure that if Gainey knew what he knows now about Huet, he might not have ask for Aebisher but maybe Tanguay like you said; But Huet had only been good for a about 3 weeks or so. If Huet turned out to be a flash and Aebisher took over and took us into the playoffs, Gainey would have looked like a genius. I agree, we need to wait and see what happens with Aebisher before we can evaluate that trade and we need to see what Gainey will do with the extra money as well.. It's too early to tell. Maybe Aebisher will stay and be great, maybe Theo will continue his descent to hell? Maybe it will be reverse ? who knows ? What if the extra money allows us to pay for Redden... or ..Sakic It's kinda like the Bonk trade. After 2 months in the season, this trade looked like a bust. As the season went along, Garon started to play bad and Bonk picked up his game a bit and started to find his niche (not to mention the Huet part of the trade); I'm sure LA Fans aren't to thrilled about that trade anymore. In other words, IMO, it's way too early to tell.

Theo's head was too big to fit under his hat, not to mention most teams couldn't fit him under their cap. Gainey got something for nothing and lowered the teams payroll to make room to manouever. I don't blame him for not getting Iginal or Staal or Ovetchkin for the doctors neighbor and the gangsta's son.

The Avs don't have the offensive depth they once had. IMO, they can't trade Tanguay unless they get back a player that can replace his point production which has been pretty amazing over the years eventhough he's still really young. I'd be really surprised if this guys goes anywhere.
