According to RDS... other players are involved... More to come... Here's the link: tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=169536&hubname=Canucks rid themselves of a distraction, an inconsistent goalie, and a big, strong, young d-man with upside. They get a goalie who could take them very far and a potential PP quarterback. Bertuzzi (will he go to seed down there, or find new life with Horton and Jokinen?) Auld (will he stay or be packaged somewhere else?) Allen (definitely a boost to the blueline) On paper, the Canucks win this trade. Too many "ifs" for the Panthers, IMO.

First thing that comes to mind if relief, because I hope now that all talk of bertuzzi to the habs will end.
Are there any chances that Luongo will not resign in Vancouver??

2 major question marks change teams.... both potentially 1-year deals. Both teams can now hope that the main guy they got will like it in his new town and sign long-term.
We're going to see a lot of this in the new NHL, I suspect - teams try and get a player shortly before he's a UFA (especially if he's not really happy where he is) and try and make him feel at home and want to sign long-term.
But this deal could go so many ways.... in 2 years it might boil down to Allen and Auld for Krajicek...

Interesting trade. Ultimatly, it's in Longo's hand to go wherever he wants......NEXT year.
This is also a nail in the "he's from Quebec therefore he is coming here" BS.

Yeah, and I hope he chooses Mtl. I'm still not sold on a full-time tandem of Huet/Abeschier.

Marvin Uh, the Huet-Aeb tandem isn't likely to happen regardless - Aebischer wants to be #1 somewhere, and Huet won't be taking backup money, either. Now, given that none of the final 4 teams in the playoffs made it on one goalie alone, I'd much rather have 2 good goalies rather than just a clear-cut #1 (no matter how good) and a backup who's just that, a backup.

Just heard on Sportsnet from Darren Dreger and Nick Kypreos that the Leafs were really going for Luongo. But they were worried about his status next year. Meanwhile, Vancouver swung a deal. Of course, the Leafs were interested. Don't they go for EVERY big-time player on the market? Now all the "Toronto slant" is saying that Vancouver will likely be shopping Cloutier....and of course, the Leafs will be front runners again.

Luongo's contract status has little to do with this - Toronto just could not put a package together like the Canucks did. Toronto can lust after Luongo all they want but the hard truth is that outside of Kaberle/McCabe/Sundin, who would Florida want from their roster? And would they really take Cloutier - an average goalie coming off ACL surgery? There are better options out there - let's hope Ferguson doesn't see them.

A big deal, and a bigger risk by the Canucks IMO.
