I agree with Pierre Lebrun's take. Raycroft is coming off a bad year but won't take much to qualify - about 1.5. The leafs didn't give up a roster player for him so Lebrun considers it low risk.
Toronto just doesn't have the assets to go after biiger names like Biron, Giguere or Nabokov.

He took considerable playing time away from Tellqvist.

Awful trade for Toronto, in my opinion. Going into last year’s draft many scouts had Carey Price and Tukka Rask 1-2, and not necessarily in that order. Would we have given up Carey Price for Raycroft? Not in this lifetime. Rask’s stock has gone up since then (based mainly on his being the top goaltender at the World Junior’s). While I wouldn’t say Raycroft is finished as a goalie, as he too is very young, Rask’s upside is much, much higher.
In my opinion, this isn’t very far off from dealing Rask for Yann Danis, a move I would have done in a heartbeat.
I’d laugh at the Leafs, but unfortunately Rask went to the Bruins…

Hard to say how this one will work out. Raycroft could regain form, or he could be another Jim Carey. A lot of people seem to think getting out of Boston will do him A LOT of good. Hard to say. In Rask, Toronto gives up a great prospect, but a prospect none the less. Rask may never make it to the show. There are a lot of ifs with this trade. It could blow up in JFJ's face. It might work. Either way, there's every possibility he won't be in TO when and if Rask makes it.

Raycroft ain't popular today on the talk shows.....
They all think Aubin should be THE MEN from now on.
Poor fellow, looks like he's somewhere between is calder year and his Horrible year. So, middle of the pack ...... Not good enough in TO. If they turn on him, he's in for a tough time. He'll wish he'd be back in Boston warming up the bench.
JFJ must pray that Tuuka Rask doesn't become a start in the future. He would be known as the GM that traded Rask for Raycroft....
Time will tell

Time will tell I think the Leafs might need a better defence corps actually. While he could be playing better, I think Raycroft is only the fall guy here. He shouldn't be singled out solely. Besides they play us well regardless who they have in the line up. Cheers.

Raycroft hasn't been bad. But he hasn't been great either, and that's what Leaf fans were hoping. Raycroft didn't impress me in the '04 playoffs, and he still doesn't impress me, today.

He did play good tonight and won a game for the Leafs. Lecavalier and St. Louis could have buried them early, without the great lateral saves by Raycroft, in the first and second period.
