There has been talk of a Peter Forsberg for Darcy Tucker trade in the Toronto media. Personally, as a Leafs fan, I hope this doesn't happen. It'll be Owen Nolan all over again!

He doesn't need to have a source. Every player is coming to Toronto; didn't you know?

I would think that TO would have to throw in more than Tucker to get that deal done. As much as Tucker brings to the table he can't take over a game and dominate the way that Forsberg can. A more logical fit for Forsberg would be Anaheim if they can afford him. They're close, and Forsberg could put them over the top. Getzlaf would probably get the deal done. Philly would be happy to build around he Carter and Richards - stars from team Canada at the WJC.

Ziesberger, Toronto Sun, Leafs Lunch Friday. Ask him who else is involved in the trade? Being the resident Capologist here I will analyze the trade. Darcy Tucker: 1.596 Million cap hit Peter Forsberg: 5.750 Million cap hit Difference: 4.154 million Toronto salary currently at: 42 million The season is currently one-quarter over so the Maple Leafs would need to have enough room for 4.154 - 0.25*4.154 = 3.1155 Million. They do not. And they haven't had enough injuries to save money on that front either .... remember that an injured player still counts until he has missed 10 games when insurance kicks in. Fot this trade to be possible the Maple Leafs have to shed another 1.1155 million, and unless it is Jeff O'Neill then the leafs will have to trade 3 players. (unless they are going to ship out their untouchables: Kaberle, Peca, McCabe, etc.)

Oh give me a break! Forsberg for Tucker?!! Who dreamt that one up? Toronto would have to offer a heck of a lot more than Tucker to get a world-class player like Forsberg.

Forsberg is on the down side of his career and is injury prone. It would be a stupid move to take him even up for Tucker.

Tellqvist - $589,000 Harrison - $450,000 Total - 1.039 million Not quite there yet. *Speaking of Tellqvist, when he played for the baby-buds down here I made a song up about him..... I called him MC-Telly and made it up to the tune of "Can't touch this" "wrist shot, can't stop it" "snap shot, can't stop it" "backhand, can't stop it" "My my team sucks so hard, because I tried so hard to stop the little black puck , but I just bleeping suck" "Can't stop it ... no way" "Gotta get my ass outta da way" "Can't stop it" Ohhh I used to have the fans laughing so hard in the seats ....

Strangely enough, Telleqvist is in net for the Leafs tonight. They say that Aubin has the flu. So why not dress Raycroft, if he's been practicing full out the last two days? Maybe a showcase for a trade? On the cap numbers, each game puts it closer to the magic number.

Being the resident Capologist Penicillin might make it go away...... It may happen but then again, why would Philly do it unless there was some long term commitment by Tucker? It's not like Philly needs Fosberg to be a contender.

Philly needs to make some cap room, to start unloading some of those lumbering defencemen. To get rid of them, they'll have to take back salary in a trade going the other way. I think Philly is about to pull the pin on this season.

You are correct, Sir. I was just thinking about the emergence of Carry Price. By then, we'll be comparing Carry Price vs Justin Pogge, as the Leafs and Habs fight for supremecy of the North East Conference.

Perhaps, though over the years I've come to be very wary of long-term predictions about the makeup of teams or the progression of prospects. Reading a THN prospect issue from just 2002 or so can be surprisingly humbling.

We gave up Tucka Rask for Andrew Raycroft. So far, he has regained his form. Justin Poggie is just getting his feet wet with the Marlboro's. He won't be ready for at least three years. That is when Raycroft's contract ends. By then, Raycroft will either be in the upper echelon of NHL goaltenders or an average Martin Gerber type. Poggie will either replace him or be traded for another piece of the puzzle.
Corry Price, on the other hand, has no real competition in the Habs net in four years. Huet will probably be in Europe and Abiesher will be an average borderline first string goalie. The Habs will need a much improved defense. Sourey should be dealt ASAP, while his numbers are good. Markov looks to be the heir to the number 1 defenceman mantle. Habs need to look at adding a good shot blocking defenceman to make them a more viable playoff team

Danis? Or do you not watch other teams play? In fact the development of the habs goaltending of the future is miles ahead of the Leafs. If Raycroft falters , errr when raycroft falters who do the Leafs go to? Aubin? Tellqvist? Two goalies who can't even win in the AHL? I agree Montreal has to get defense. But looking to the farm .... Emelin, Fisher, O'Byrne ..... Montreal does not need to trade to compete ; that is an Ontario recipe that leaves (errr leafs) most our pallets with digestive problems.

You might be underrating Pogge (correct spelling). I don't think it will take him 4 years. I suspect he may be needed sooner. Raycroft has been ok, but I'm not sure he'll be anything more than a solid starter. 50th percentile type of guy. I don't have a good opinion of Price either, though he's young enough to prove me wrong. I've already pencilled in Halak as our Number 1 by the end of next season. I can be very confident when I'm playing with monopoly money.

Leafs Leaders in Blocked Shots:
1. McCabe 38 2. Gill 36 3. Peca 27 4. Kaberle 25 5. White 24
Montreal leaders in blocked shots
1. Markov 35 2. Rivet 33 3. Niinimaa 32 4. Souray 32 5. Bonk 24
Who needs the shot blocking defensemen again?
In fact if you neglect Dandy who has only played 7 games (13 blocked shots) ... only Streit has less than 20 blocked shots (17)
Toronto on the other hand after Ian White has Bell with 13, Belak with 9.
And if you take the entire defense corps for this seaoson:
Toronto: 133 GP ... 155 Blocked Shots...1.17 BS per game
Montreal: 115 GP...184 Blocked Shots ... 1.6 BS per game

I wasn't going to respond to the Leaf fan, but Skilly, if Raycroft is the competition for this Pogge kid, why wouldn't Aebischer potentially still be competition for Price ? Aebischer hasn't been asking for a trade and seems happy around here, what's to say that the current platoon system will necessarily be gone in a few years ? Aebischer and Raycroft are essentially the same age, and both have had their ups and downs, though going on stats alone, Aeb would seem like a much surer thing to last in this league.

Can't help it. I just don't like the guy, and his play has done nothing to change my mind. I do however like him more than Traverse or Samsonov.

I believe one of these guys, Huet or Abby, will still be with the team next year. Maybe both if things work out (and by things working out I mean both getting 30+ games and winning). I agree completely that Huet or Abby will be the competition for Halak, Danis, and/or Price. But regardless when one is traded you can be sure it won't be for another goalie .... Halak or Danis will be called up. Then next year we have a #1 goalie with a rookie back-up, followed by a year where Price has his first legit shot of cracking the line-up. The only fear I have with our goalies is that when Huet contract is up, either his play or the money will make us think twice about signing him, and Gainey will have reservations about going with Halak and Price as the two goalies in the NHL because of their youth. He might then go an get a "veteran" back-up and effectively be forced to deal one or hinder their development.

Strange things happening in Leafs land today. Raycroft is scheduled to start, but Brenden Bell will sit tonight and Suglobov will play. Could this be a potential trade possibility for the Blue and White? Tellqvist plays Saturday, Bell sits and Suglobov plays. Could these three be the players being packaged, for either Forsberg or Lecavallier, with other considerations? Kronwall and Coliacovo are ready to come off IR. Kronwall can be sent to the Marlies, with no waivers, but Coliacovo cannot. He has already had his 10 day reconditioning stint.
