Just received a note from HockeyLeaks about this rumor:
To Philly: Aebesheir, Rivet & Samsanov To Mtl: Pitkanen, Eshe & a draft choice
Throw in Gagne and THEN you're talking!

Pitkanen is very good but may be injury prone. By adding him, I bet we'd have far and away the best offensive defense corps in the league.

The Flyers would be insane to do this trade. What about Forsberg? Anyway we can lend him here? It's probably just a coincidence, but I find it strange that that rumors popped out and then a few hours later Samsonov and Rivet are scratched for the game.

Marv I would do that deal. Esche is pure backup at this point. There's an off chance getting out of goalie hell might spark him. Pitkanen is a risk due to injury but he's a stud when healthy. We get rid of UFAs in the process. Seems lopsided in that regard, but I'd do it at this point.

Pitkanen for Souray seems to be a good and fair trade. Souray wil return to his old form, by next year. Do it now, while you can.

Yes, please....a hint.
Two people named in this thread are both scratched...hmmm.
Sammy.....one would think he's scratched for logical reasons...he's not producing.
But Rivet leaving the Bell Centre....I wonder if he came back for the game...or just went home.
Sounds as if there's more to it than just a scratch...and it could explain the horrible effort tonight at home. Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

re Forsberg, I picked this up from Spector's:
Tim Panaccio recently reported there was no truth to a rumour last week that had Montreal Canadiens GM Bob Gainey staying over in Philadelphia to discuss trading Forsberg. The Flyers captain denied again that he'll consider waiving his no-trade clause, adding that what's more important is finding a solution to the problems he's suffered with his surgically repaired right foot, which has made skating difficult.

But Rivet leaving the Bell Centre....I wonder if he came back for the game...or just went home. At yesterday's press conference, Crabo said that Rivet returned and watched the game live and that he was in the locker room with the boy after the game.

It's probably just a coincidence, but I find it strange that that rumors popped out and then a few hours later Samsonov and Rivet are scratched for the game. It's not a coincidence IMO. This "rumor" came in at the same time the scratches were announced. That is just some guy connecting the dots, hoping for an home run. Trading signed player for UFAs gives you more leeway in the summer if you want to truly shakeup your team (like Philly probably wants to) and Pitkanen has 1 goal and is -23 so he's not exactly having a great year.

Assuming this rumour has legs...
If the Flyers can re-sign Rivet, and Sammy regains his jump, the deal does not look so bad for them.
A player like Sammy is melting under the Montreal spotlight and pressure. Perhaps a change of scenery is what he needs.
As Doc pointed out, Pitkanen is having a horrible season so if there was ever a time to snag him away from Philly, now's the time.
Strike while the iron's hot Bob.

I spoke with a friend who covers the Habs and Sens for AP, and in his opinion if anyone is going to get traded, it will be Souray. He's the most trade-able, the most sought-after, and the most un-signable for the Habs.

I think Pitkanen's horrible +/- has something to do with the horrible team he plays for. He does have 22 assists, so it hasn't been all bad for him this year.

According to someone "ïnside" something already happened. But I got a bag of salt handy. How bout a hint HA? It's from a reporter so it's not worth that much. LOL! He asked me what I got, I had nothing, I asked him what he got....one of the Hab's speculated (feared? relieved?) that there was a trade and it would be announced late morning today. I was out for dinner but kept my eye on the ticker to see if something happened. Pffft...nothing. He said, she said, they said.....nobody knows nothing. There, I revealed all my secrets. Something tells me that this guy who posted the Philly trade got it from the same "sources" and assumed a trade already happened. However, it's one thing to speculate and a completely different thing to name ALL the players involved in a swap. VERY RARELY does that much information spill out. BTW, ever since Gainey took over, the well has run dry...DAMMIT

The Flyers would be insane to do this trade. I don't think they would. The trade is essentially Aebischer + throw-ins for Pitkanen + throw-ins. But whoever came up with this rumour needs to think a little bit better and shouldn't base rumours out of who was benched the other night. Rivet doesn't offer much at all. Slow speed, average passing, standard and inaccurate shot. The Flyers can keep Esche; call up Halak.

It'll be interesting to see if Sammy and Rivet are scratched again versus the Thrashers.
