I don't know jkr. I think the price was a tad steep. If that was the going rate then what would Forsberg command? Even Smolinski for that matter.
Seemed like the Flames gave up a bit too much on this one. It's not like Conroy is having a juggernaut season either.
Cheers.

I agree Dis. Too much to pay for a guy having a crap year. If that's what Conroy can muster, perhaps we can get something decent for Sammy should BG decide to move him. Lundmark is a decent checking center, the 4th is this year in a somewhat thin draft, and the 2nd is next year. The 2008 draft is supposed to be very deep.

Judging by what Sutter paid, it shows that he really wanted Conroy.
Although he was having a bad year, Calgary is where he's enjoyed his best seasons so he might return to form. There shouldn't be a problem with chemistry since he's familiar with a lot of the current Flames.
Despite the steep price, a good move by the Flames to add depth. They are pretty much set in all other positions (defence, goaltending) so another experienced centerman can't hurt.

It's likely those "intangibles" figured more for Sutter right now than Conroy's offensive output. Always heartening to see another Habs' draft pick have himself a solid NHL career.

Lundmark has done nothing this year. He's hardly played in the last 20 games, so giving him up was not a big deal. L.A. will be his 4th team in 4 years. Giving up the draft picks is a crap shoot anyway.
Last year Conroy had a great year playing with Demitra. This year he's been playing with Sean Avery. Regardless of what Conroy has done this year, he and Iginla click.

You know what, when this deal happenned, I though to myself we should do the same and go get back Yannic Perreault.

You know what, when this deal happenned, I though to myself we should do the same and go get back Yannic Perreault. I had thought of the notion last week, thinking the way he plays center might work well with Kovy. Phoenix has been up and down this year, and one of the main reasons they were up is Yanic. I never had a problem with him when he was here. He helped us through the dark times, did what was asked of him. When we thought Ribs was the solution it was thought he'd outlived his usefulness. I'd be very surprised to see it, but he'd be inexpensive both in terms of salary and what it should take to get him. He is a ufa after the season.

I don't understand you guys. A couple of years ago people couldn't ship Perreault and others out of town fast enough. Now everyone wants him back?

Kovalev and Sammy are play makers. They need a north-south player that likes to shoot, and shoots well. Yanic does that. He's also supremely good at face offs, and increased puck possession would benefit our play 5-on-5. When Ribs took over he spent most of his time with Ryder. Ryder the shooter, Ribs the set up man. Our second line as too many set up men and not enough finishers. I don't think anyone is tripping over ourselves to get him back, just toying with possible fixes for the second line.

I was happy to have him on the ice the last five minutes of a game taking faceoffs. Boy could we have used him last year. And even at times this year.

Perreault is one of the few things that's gone right for Phoenix this season.
While I wouldn't mind seeing him back with the Habs, I wonder what kind of backlash the Yotes would face from the fans if they shipped out Yanic while in the midst of a playoff race?
