Nagy, a UFA in July of this year, was moved to the Stars for Tjarnqvist and 1st rounder 2007.

$hit. At least it's a Western team. He was one of the guys I hoped Gainey might be targetting. Lad can play all the forward positions, and has some sandpaper in his game.

If that's the price for Nagy, I can't imagine what Philly wants for Forsberg.
But I can imagine how much Souray is worth...

UFA = 1st rounder? Wow.
Methinks we'll see a lot of this in the years to come, as FA age lowers. So much for stability in your hometown roster. This may backfire -- why buy a jersey with a name on it when the name may be long gone in a couple of months?

Ah, the good old days before stenciled personal advertising, when if you loved your team you committed each player's number to memory. And now, the ADD NHL.

Reminds me of Mr. Ballard's attempt to circumvent the new rules regarding players names on the back othe jersey by stitching white letters on the white unis.

Remember that this year's draft is very thin. A late first rounder is likely to be not much better than a third. Expect teams to take home run swings. Dallas is strong. Their pick would be late, so moving him and a bit part in Tjarnqvist, even for a UFA, isn't that much IMO.

Witt & Roloson went for 1st rounders last year.

Indeed. Why spend 5, 6, 7 years developing a player when you can simply buy one right at the beginning of his prime playing years?
Let somebody else screw around with 1st rounders and their rookie mistakes... Just go get that 27 year old stud who has already been polished by the aforementioned screwees...
That could be the thinking, anyways.

It's what's happening in the NFL. Only the big names get the big picks though, and I think it will head that way in time.
