Last season, when the 'Nucks were struggling, Burke made a few deals to shake up the club.
- Linden + 2nd pick for 1st round pick (he dropped 20 places in a weak draft year). - Pederson + others for Berehowsky + others (can't remember the 'others' names but they were scrubs). - Brashear for Hlavac.
All those trades did not involve any front line players, but were impactful enough to give his team a boost. He got rid of some deadwood, malcontents, cancers, and acquired leadership in Linden.
Then this season, after a sluggish first 5 games, he goes and trades Hlavac+Druken for Malik and Langdon. Essentially he traded 2 talented players who were not fitting in with his team for 2 lesser players who are fitting in with the red-hot Canucks.
Now once again, no one is asking Savard to trade for stars. I just want him to clear the decks a bit and get some players in here who are going to fit into the team's lineup.
This team can put out a decent lineup (top three lines and top 4 defensemen when Souray is healthy), but we all know that is impossible with the brainless wonder behind the bench ...

AH, good post but no need for the name calling
Burke is a GM who certainly doesn't ''stand pat''. He makes minor adjustements when his team struggles and somehow they go on an unbelievable streak right after. He never trades core players as well.
BTW the deal was Pederson+Berehowski for Letowski, Warriner and minor leaguer Tyler Bouck as I recall...

i hope, and believe that AS has been working the phone, almost since the beginning of the season. i believe the reason no trade has yet occured in habland is the offers for the audette's and petrov's and hackett's have not been to AS's likeing. patience is a must, if you want to become a successful gm, and it's something i believe AS has. with that being said, i believe there's going to be a trade of some sort in the near future.

dumb-AS as you called him It's okay to do that as long as it's not obscene or a racial slur. Heck, look at all the names I have tossed out over the years. Dumb-AS is kind of original and I suspect we will all be using it by Christmas. By the way, Marc is debating a future between the Catholic priest hood or Hari Krisna so he is kinda of sensitive.

Marc, go with the Hari Krisna's, those Catholic priest are in more disarray then the Habs blueline.

I haven't really entertained firing Therrien outright, probably because I haven't seen as many games as you guys have and my new job is keeping busy most nights now. But, I can't ignore the literary evidence that shows up on the board game after game. It seems to be a complusion at times, but there's so much coming out it's near impossible to miss.
And though I'm reading "incompetency" in these posts, I'm also piecing together that Therrien has lost control of the team a tad.
Possible Coach-of-the-Year candidate, Jacques Lemaire, wouldn't entertain coming back to Montreal, but I wish someone would ask permission to talk to Larry Robinson. I think Savard could easily convince George Gillett that this guy is worth it.
However, after Larry, I don't know who else is available. Cheers.

How about we trade for Linden? Just a thought. ;D On the serious side, the biggest move that Burke made was maybe a non-move. He stuck with Cloutier when many said that he wasn't the answer. So far it's panning out. Without good play by Cloutier all the other moves might have been more or less cancelled out. Oh, I won't be using Dumb-AS by xmas. Might be using Smart-AS though. Sorry, but geezers are allowed some groaners.

Yeah Cloutier has been rock solid for them.
Goes to show you how much time goalies take before becoming good.

I would say the Canucks performances for last season were way more due to the fact that finally Todd Bertuzzi, after his suspension, along with Naslund played with so much fire that they killed the league by themselves.
As for André Savard, don't ya think he tries to do what he can to help this team ? But he sure won't trade anyone for the pleasure of it.
If we start losing patience with Savard, then we'll never be happy with anyone anymore.

I really don't see the point in making any deals as long as the Herb Tarlek of NHL coaches remains behind the bench (who picks out this man's wardrobe anyway) It wouldn't matter who they bring in. If he's not a favourite of Therrien's, he wont get the ice-time anyway.

If we start losing patience with Savard, then we'll never be happy with anyone anymore. If you build a team with youngsters and the results are not quite there because they are making youngsters mistake, then you ask patience from the fans. But. If you assemble 46 mil worth of veterans, then the time to perform is NOW.

If you assemble 46 mil worth of veterans, then the time to perform is NOW. Amen. If the Habs simply told their fans..''look...we haven't done much over the years with veterans teams...it's time to change the sauce a little...I mean can it be worse than what we have had the past few years? we are going with youngsters, be patient, support them, hype them, watch them grow and who knows sooner than we think they could emerge as a good team and be great for the next 5-10 years.'' Every Habs message board is saying the same thing. Time for youth. Radio shows are saying the same thing. Where is Ward? where is Hossa? or Hainsey? If the Habs wanted to bring in youth the fans would be more than happy IMO. Because we have seen it work elsewhere and we know it can work here

Our rants are falling on deaf ears! Its frustrating to watch MT tinker with this lineup and sitting the wrong players. Moves should have been made a month ago!Once again a season will have to be lost for somebody to wake up! HFTO
