After posting a .500 record in October (3-3-3), they posted another .500 record for November (7-6-1-1). That OT loss is a loss in my books, regardless if we get a point for it or not.
Can we see a trend here ?
Having said that, we were 6-3-1 at one point in November until the roof caved in the last 5 games. November was by far one of the 2 toughest months schedule wise for the boys. Looking at the numbers, it wasn't that bad of a month. However, the last 10 days have been just brutal to everyone's psychee (sp?).

Team mediocre. And by the looks of it our GM is happy about it.

Well November was a tough month. @canes, @ leafs, Stl, NYI, Dal, @nj, NJ, Pitt, @pitt, @ott, Canes, Thrashers, @bos, Phi. Thats 7 wins 7 losses 1 tie, and 16 out of 30 pts. We scored 40 goals and let in 43. But you think November was tough, wait till this month. All Therrien bashers, this could be your month, cause we are going on a very tough 2 weeks. In Decemeber we play 14 games, 4 at home and 10 on the road. @dal, @avs, @pho, @bos, TB, bos, @ott, SJ, @nyr, Buf, NYI, @ott, @pitt, @cal. Thats no fun. Dal, Avs, bos, TB, bos, Ott, SJ, Ott are all tough with 3 NY teams not very easy to play either. What's up with playing Ottawa 3x's already all at Ottawa?

Well, based on the first 24 games we have 25 points out of 48 which, at just over 52%, projects out to 85 1/2 points for the year. As one of the 86 point skeptics that seems about right to me. Frankly, I think that far too much was expected of this team based on last year's emotionaly finish and playoffs. You're only likely to get a player coming back from the dead to inspire the team once every, oh, century or so.
Any potential improvements to the team are being offset by Audette's inability to overcome that arm injury but still clogging up the roster thereby denying Czerk a spot, Gilmour playing on the wing and so neither scoring nor being the leader he was last year, Theo's infection by the "glutted contract syndrome" and the overly optimistic expectations for Hainsey and for the fall of the Bruins and probably the Leafs (they're starting to play better much as I hate to admit it). Add in the fact that other teams improved as well, including by the addition of coaches in Hitchcock and Burns, and the coaching factor (loss of Carbonneau which is at least hurting in the disruption of continuity plus MT's inability to grow as a coach which is really hurting this team) and you end up with what we see- stasis.
Like I said a while back, wait until next year or the year after.

But you think November was tough, wait till this month. All Therrien bashers, this could be your month, cause we are going on a very tough 2 weeks. I'm finding this a difficult year from a psychological point of view (twitch, blink). I desparately want the Habs to win each game, yet I find myself hoping they lose by 8 or 9 goals every night. That's because I think I can put up with cognitive dissonance for a couple of months, but if MT isn't fired soon, I won't be able to take the hopelessness of 3 or 4 more years, or longer, if MT holds on until AS is canned. GM's have longer shelf lives and it'll take several years of mediocrity for GG to realize AS won't fire MT and GG fires AS to make it so. Can you take it? It seems to be sinking in now, that Andre's only route to clearing up some of this mess is to buy out some contracts, or putting people on waivers and sending them to Hamilton after they clear. Expensive, and too difficult for our GM to concede. One of our posters (sorry, can't remember who) used the word 'stubborn' to describe AS and I have to admit, I think that's a very apt description. Anyway, I'm sure he's trying hard to clear up the logjam, but he's undoubtedly finding it very difficult without giving up the proverbial battleship for a rowboat. Just cut some people loose, Andre, pay the price, clear the decks and bring up some energy. That'll work for a while until MT kills the youth.

Aahh 17, look on the "bright" side- MT will be gone by 2004/05 or even by next year. Or even this year if the team completely tanks, which I think that it won't. We'll hang around the playoff mark long enough to put the decision off until next summer.
Meantime I hope the kids on the farm are learning and turn out to be good enough....fingers crossed, touch wood.
As for cutting our losses I agree, said so on some other thread ( I never know what I said when or where with this new format). Also agree it won't happen unless the team really goes south. Actually wouldn't mind seeing that. It would serve to purge MT, even Audette and Gilmour, and maybe put us in a better position at draft time. This lineup ain't going to take us too far anyway so might as well take a long term view is what I say.
Cheers.
