An earlier thread got me to thinkin... who will be the next captain of the Habs, when Koivu retires, or if he was ever to change teams (likely that won't happen, he IS the Montreal Canadiens (along with Theo)). Taking into consideration this most likely won't happen for quite a while, and I can't predict the future as to who they'll trade, and trade for: Which of these new/future Habs do you think will show the most qualities of being named Captain?

I'll go with Higgins, he'll be a Koivu type player with lots of heart (a bit less talent) and Montreal is his favorite team so you know he would honor something like that. And if he could be half the player Carbo was then we'd be in good hands!

I'll say none of the above, and go with a wild card;
Denis Gauthier. Currently of the Calgary Flames.

Gauther eh... For the past couple seasons i've wanted the Habs to aquire him, he'd be a great fit in my opinion. A hard hitting d man is just what we need, and a Montreal native on top of that... too bad i don't think Calgary will deal him anytime soon. (also, he's only 2 years younger than Saku)

Well, out of these 7 youngs, i think only 3 have captain potential,
Hainsey Komisarek Higgins
I'll have to go with Komi on this one, why?
Because as time passes, Komi continue to pop another talent out of his sleeves over and over...as he gain confidence, this next step would be logical.

John Ferguson ... er ... I honestly would have like to have seen Cory Stillman in Montreal, but what are you going to do?
I also thought Benoit Brunet would have been a very fitting captain. Take nothing away from Saku, it's simply because of what Benny brought to the table. But, again, what are you going to do?
Do we have a Shane Doan in the system? Methinks ney, but hopefully we have a sleeper in the system that develops into the prototypical, two-way, bashing, Canadian kid.
You know it's actually hard to decide who would be captain if Saku were to be traded or retire. I would have voted for Gilmour, but his recent performance has changed my position a tad.
I honestly think Brisebois is the last of '93 Cup lads. He's playing like a general these days. I know he's not on your list, but if another captain has to be appointed, he'd be my choice today.
Rivet would no doubt put up an "A" to fill the void left by Brisebois. That's my two-pesos anyway. Cheers.

I'll say Komi but I think Koivu will keep it as long as he is a Hab...

Actually, even though it's really to early to even make an educated guess as to who it may be, I have been really impressed with the play of Markov so far this season. He's put up some really decent numbers offensively, while suprisingly, playing really decent defense as well. Many times so far this season I've see him swiping the puck from the crease after Theo or Hackett had made a save and had it squirt by them, usually just in front of the opposition who's looking to poke it in.
So, I'll cast my ballot for A.M.

I say Higgins down the road...but if we had to pick a new captain tomorrow it's Rivet, IMO. But I'll cast my vote for Gauthier as well if we can get him I would like to keep Souray and still get Gauthier, but chances are if anything would ever happen there it would have to be Souray going the other way. He's a Western Boy, damnit it just makes sense, give us the Hit Man already!

Imagine a Gauthier-Komi pair ;D

Souray+Balej for Gauthier? ;D Keep Balej and send Souray and his wife for Gauthier. (I don't know how long Sheldon has her under contract but she could become an unrestricted free agent at any time! Especialy after a Calgary winter.)
